This is what I wrote last week:

Our children have fought long enough overseas based on one man's politics of fear. Now it is our turn to do our part here at home.

WE NEED TO FIGHT THE TERRORIST HERE
SO OUR SONS & DAUGHTERS DON'T HAVE TO FIGHT HIS WAR OVER THERE

This is how it was done then:

This post is how lazy liberals like me do it now.
But it just ain't cutting it anymore.

Well, on this day honoring America's greatest voice for peaceful protest, Martin Luther King, it has been announced. The march is on, January 27th. It is being backed by MoveOn.org and many other organizations. Are we going to be counted in that number?

Can one of us make this march and are the other members willing to sponsor that person? I'd love it if we could make this a group project. This is what we would need.

1. a volunteer to attend the march and be the POL field correspondent, reporting back with stories and photos.
2. a coordinator to research the cost of the trip: transportation and lodging. There are more details and rooms available through http://www.unitedforpeace.org/index.php
3. optional: a t-shirt for our marcher

(or something like that)

I can set up a Paypal account for donations for the marcher's expenses and look into printing up the t-shirt unless someone else has that capability already.

There is only 12 days to the march so we would need to act quick. Post here if you can help.:protest:

Sounds good V,
I'll donate $50, if someone can go.
Since I don't use my PC for money matters, I hope you can set up a P.O. box if it works out.

I've been sitting on this, cuz it's still very vague: I'm either going to be in Norfolk, VA (about 100 miles from DC) or Long Beach, CA (about 3000 miles away) that weekend. I won't know until around the 23rd.

The bonus is if I can make it, Uncle Sam'll be picking up the check. :)

is anybody going?

That is the question? I'm open to going myself, however, at about 2500 miles away, a drive isn't practical, and neither is a plane flight. Even with us chipping in, a couple of hundred dollars just to add one body to the march and be back in my office in 3 days is not the best investment of time or manpower.

Yet we can't keep expecting Americans within the perimeter of DC to stand in line for us when it comes time to be seen and heard.

hmmmm, but maybe there is another way,
some important work to be done in my own backyard!
and perhaps a way for us all to make even more of an impact...

PLAN B:
The Southwest Manuever - Campaign McCain

With the brunt of our peace force marching on Washington in the east, there is a vital vain of the GOP and the new Iraq war plan that is exposed and vulnerable in the southwest.

John McCain, here in sunny AZ. The man for which this new Iraq plan is being labeled, THE MCCAIN DOCTRINE for his consistent pushing for more troops.

A large scale protest at McCain's home base one week after the DC campaign would serve 3 purposes.

1. Send the message that this issue is not going to fade away after the 27th. Citizens are going to "stay the course" until congress acts to reject escalation and bring our troops home.
2. Afix this latest Iraq misstep/debocle with John McCain, the next, best, GOP candidate for President. Imprint the war plan as "The McCain Doctrine". The long, lengthy battle for President '08 could be won, right here, right now!
3. Every following week, a protest could be staged at the home base of another senator or congressperson that supports the escalation of the Iraq war. The campaign could be labeled, "21 Protests for 21,000 troops". The list of 21 officials would be announced and would strike fear in their hearts as they await their turn to be spotlighted in the public eye for siding with George Bush's latest Iraq blunder.

Can I get a witness? :agree:
Can we get moveon, unitedforpeace, and other organizations on board??

The time for pontificating has passed!
We voted a few weeks ago but the message was not received!!

It is time to take to the streets, brothers and sisters :fightthepower:,
to stick a stake in the ground and lift our banners in the air!! :protest:

to say it loud and clear
so that they cannot ignore
when we say what we want is
WAR NO MORE!

I 2nd the proposition!

And more news of the January 27th MARCH ON WASHINGTON from the Congressional Progressive Caucus:

http://www.thenation.com/blogs/edcut?pid=158515 :

Rep. Lynn Woolsey stood with fellow Congressional Progressive Caucus co-Chair, Rep. Barbara Lee, and the Chair of the Out of Iraq Caucus, Rep. Maxine Waters, to introduce the Bring Our Troops Home and Sovereignty of Iraq Restoration Act.
"We are a triad to be dealt with," Rep. Woolsey said. "And we will be heard from."
The three Representatives outlined the first bill to comprehensively lay out the cost and framework for a withdrawal from Iraq. It calls for bringing the troops home within six months of enactment and describes in detail US involvement to help stabilize Iraq following withdrawal. It accelerates the training of a permanent Iraqi security force during the six month transition and provides funding as necessary to ensure the safety of the troops and contractors during withdrawal. It also authorizes – if requested by the Iraqi government – US support for an international stabilization force. Finally, it guarantees full health care funding – including mental health benefits – as our veterans deserve. And it does all of this for pennies on the dollar compared to continuing the occupation which is draining the nation of needed resources.
"This will be the centerpiece of advocacy for all of the peace groups that will converge on Washington on January 27," Rep. Waters said.
Rep. Woolsey added, "President Bush may not want to listen to the American people, but they are going to be here in the streets of Washington, DC and in the halls of Congress toward the end of the month."

Hey ~V~. Dress up in a long black cowl with a fake scythe, paint your face really white, have a little sign that states "I support Sen. McCains war policy." and follow him where ever he goes in public. Or even hang out outside his office and wave at people (scowl though).

Check with aapj.org. I'm a member and they coordinate exactly these kinds of events.

The article I read said the police don't count the number of protesters anymore. You know, like the generals don't count the civilian casualties anymore and our voting machines don't count the votes anymore.
