This Grannie must apologise for the outrage I express at times. I promise to work on it in the future!
I was a child who experienced practicing what we should do if attacked, while in grammar school. Especially fearsome was the Atomic bomb. I learned of people who built and supplied their bomb shelters (silly, when one realizes how desperate neighbors trying to protect their families would break into it).
The atomic & hydrogen bombs were going to be the end of all war when we learned the horrors they caused in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan! My Uncles and brother-in -law fought those battles along with some of you and yours. I banged on pots and pans celebrating the end of war with Japan & Germany, standing on the front porch with my siblings! What a wonderful thrill it was!
Then in High School ............Korea. June 25th, 1950 to July 27th, 1953, The insane 38th parellel. Take a hill, lose a hill........and how many lives? Those were young people my age.
Kruschev, Bay of Pigs (1961), young mother of two little ones.
Viet Nam, our involvement in 1964 to March 1974. What was it, 154 to 158,000 American lives lost? How many Vietnamese? I was an activist then, a protester. I had all the men mad at me long before big-time protesting began.
I witnessed those vets protesting in Washington, in wheel chairs, on crutches, missing limbs, blind, shattered lives................holding their buddies, on their walks, arm in arm! My children were 14 & 16 when it finally ended!
I witnessed Reagan cutting funds to Veteran hospitals, closing mental institutions, throwing those poor vets out on the streets! I've watched as our hard earned Rights (Thanks to FDR mainly) Social Security, Unions: cleaner, safer working conditions, overtime pay, earned vacation time, health benefits, decent wage for a hard day's work, ......security for the working man, college within reach for our children, civil Rights for all.........
I've witnessed this being slowly but surely stolen from our great Middle Class ..........and I am outraged at the loss for our children and our Nation.
I just witnessed, this past November, a wonderful change! I see HOPE and I don't want to let it get away. I hope to see The Middle Class have the security and Rights we had, once again.
That's why I get a bit overzealous. So please forgive this Grannie, I'll try to behave....
And  to these Grannies:
