If you take out Feingold and Nader, Dodd is second only to Kucinich on the issues from the 2008 Democrats. He's charging hard to the left on legislation and on the sunday morning shows.
Any politician from Connecticut has to be especially scrutinized vis-a-vis their connections to the banking and insurance industries. Dodd's biggest potential problems might lie in this direction.
He certainly deserves a thread, and I'm particularly curious what our resident nutmegger has to say on the subject.
haus,
I've watched Dodd closely these last years........he's been one of "the good ole boy" crowd, one of the arm around the shoulder, boys...., Mr. Careful Goodguy.
Now and then he makes a small wave but NEVER has put up a real fight, in these last years, esp. since 1994.
He's really making a play now though, isn't he?
I got robo calls from him as well as Clinton for Lie-berman in the Senate primary last year! He though, helped Ned Lamont a little after he saw how the Democratic wind was blowing after the primary unlike the Clintons'!.
You're right about the Insurance companies for sure! Forget National Healthcare especially!
Seriously, I'd like to see him replaced.................. and very definately not a Presidential candidate!
I've been watching your comments on Dodd & have reined me in, but since you asked.........
IMHO,
thumbs-down
Kucinich, Feingold, Edwards.....there's where I am at this point.
Well haus,
Looks like Ned Lamont appreciates Senator Dodd..........
I'm sharing my letter from Ned, because I love Ned, and I'm honest to a fault,
and I also REALLY appreciate this Senate Bill and Senator Dodd for it..............(I haven't changed my mind though).
No doubt you already have it via Senator Feingold.
Ned Lamont :
Dear MAGI,
Last October, at the height of campaign season, the Senate voted to pass the Military Commissions Act. This law allows President Bush to hold detainees indefinitely without charging them and gives the president the authority to interpret the definition of torture under the Geneva Conventions.
As I said at the time, this law is not only unconstitutional and at odds with our values as Americans, it puts our troops in jeopardy and does great damage to our nation's moral standing in the world.
Almost immediately after the passage of the bill, our senior senator from Connecticut, Chris Dodd, took the lead in working to repeal it.
This week, Sen. Dodd is introducing legislation to restore habeas corpus protections for detainees and repeal the unconstitutional provisions of the Military Commissions Act.
Will you sign on as a citizen co-sponsor?

Chris was helpful to our campaign during the general election, and he is courageously addressing a range of serious issues in the Senate, including taking the lead in forcing a real change in strategy in Iraq.
This legislation is a chance for the Senate to start asserting our true American values again by unequivocally rejecting the gravely mistaken Administration policies on detainee treatment - policies which have only made us less safe.
Please join Sen. Dodd - along with co-sponsors Sen. Menendez (D-NJ), Sen. Leahy (D-VT), and Sen. Feingold (D-WI) - and consider becoming a citizen co-sponsor of the "Restoring the Constitution Act of 2007":

And let your representatives who voted for the Military Commissions Act know that you expect more from them.
Thanks,
Ned

It's too bad Chris Dodd doesn't realize it's very simple to have HONEST elections without any further study or devious bills.
Simply go back to paper ballots, Chris...not expensive & won't take any further time in Congress and maybe some of that time could be used to investigate Katrina happenings for instance.
Have a little talk with the other Senator from CT. about that would ya? Please!
2/15/07 Brad blog VIDEO - Mr. Dodd Goes to New Hampshire...Meets Election Integrity Advocates on the Ground...
...Defends the Disastrous Help America Vote Act of 2002...Which He Co-Authored...
Blogged by Brad from the road...
New Hampshire Election Integrity advocates bird-dogged the prospective Presidential Candidate and co-author of the disastrous Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002, Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-CT), a couple of weeks ago concerning the failures of that bill. The short video follows.
http://www.bradblog.com/
We hope other folks will do same with Presidential Candidates from any and all parties and share their video tapes of responses. One of the things we learned in Arizona from Ted Downing, the chair of the Election Integrity Committee of the state's Democratic Party (the only state party in the union to have such a committee!), is that he plans to ask each and every Presidential Candidate to appoint an Election Integrity "Cabinet Member" to their campaign staff. We'll try to report back if and when any of those candidates take him up on that.
(Links to my radio interview with Downing and others in Arizona while Guest Hosting Mike Malloy and Peter B. Collin's shows are right here.)
We'll just add one comment in reply to the below video for the moment: Mr. Dodd, the system has not been "improved since 2000." It is far far worse.
(Hat-tip Nancy Tobi and the folks at Democracy for New Hampshire)

Excellent post MAGI!!! Paper ballots are the best, cheapest, most democratic!
A couple of weeks ago, I rewrote the Dodd article at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Dodd). Like all the others, he has his good points and his bad points. He lost me somewhere between NAFTA/CAFTA and the "Golden Leash Award."
I've been very busy of late and Would like to put the full Hartford Courant article about Senator Dodd's "Energy Proposal" here.
Here's his site:
http://dodd.senate.gov/index.php?q=node/3840 and it's not on it yet.................
I haven't had a chance to call the offices I mentioned on the other thread but will sometime this week.
I'm absolutely HATING that GE has merged with another company with hopes of selling Nuclear Plants ALL OVER THE WORLD (billions of dollars of business they claim! Do you suppose Ronald is happy?) when there is STILL no way to use the spent fuel rods except to make MORE atomic energy, therefore more [B]waste!!!!!
I hope to find the article........later..
After the Iowa Caucus, Dodd is gone. Will be interesting to see where his support falls.
