American culture is essentially homophobic and sadomasochistic in nature. Americans are greatly ambivalent about sexuality and are terrified of real Eros. They desperately overcompensate in ways most unhealthy from the workplace and corporate boardroom to international affairs as well as in their own bedrooms.
In this culture where power itself is eroticized, it is natural for dominant/submissive sexual dyads to emerge. That is an inertia that has to be overcome if We, the people are to be able to effectively coexist in our world, and America is not alone in that. Consider contrasting cultures of our world and see how sex, gender, gender roles, dominance/submission and power are played out in our world based on culture. Consider language expressions of political movers like Rove, et al. America is in the midst of a cultural crisis for which the Religious Right believes they are the answer, yet, are clueless that they are playing a big part in the perpetuation of America's, and our world's, cultural problem as America moves ever more deeply into globalization, one world government, the New World Order.
