Just finished this book, one of the last few that Shirer wrote before he passed away in 1993. Using notes he had smuggled out, he presents an inside view of Nazi Germany from the time shortly after Hitlers coup, until 1940, when he had to leave under threat of arrest by the Gestapo.

Get somewhat of an insight into the neo-cons and the financial establishment and the way they manipulate public opinion today, without the explicit police state. At least get a picture of the conditions inside the Reich, from the viewpoint of one who was not trapped within the insane media spin of propaganda minister Goebbels and was always at odds with the censors over what he could report to the outside world. The language he uses to describe the various officials of the Nazi party certainly reflect on someone who is older, and more apt to speak his mind more openly.

Highly recomended!
