Was the president wired during the first debate?

full article:
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2004/10/08/bulge/index_np.html

excerpts from the salon.com article:

Did the device explain why the normally ramrod-straight president seemed hunched over during much of the debate?
...
On several occasions, the president simply stopped speaking for an uncomfortably long time and stared ahead with an odd expression on his face. Was he listening to someone helping him with his response to a question?
...
In a peeved rejoinder to Kerry, he said, "As the politics change, his positions change. And that's not how a commander in chief acts. I, I, uh -- Let me finish". It must be said that Bush pointed toward Lehrer as he declared "Let me finish." The green warning light was lit, signaling he had 30 seconds to, well, finish.
...
sure enough, at minute 23 on the video of the debate, you can clearly see the bulge between the president's shoulder blades.
...
the Bush administration insisted on a condition that no cameras be placed behind the candidates.
...
Suggestions that Bush may have using this technique stem from a D-day event in France, when a CNN broadcast appeared to pick up -- and broadcast to surprised viewers -- the sound of another voice seemingly reading Bush his lines, after which Bush repeated them. Danny Schechter, who operates the news site MediaChannel.org, and who has been doing some investigating into the wired-Bush rumors himself, said the Bush campaign has been worried of late about others picking up their radio frequencies -- notably during the Republican Convention on the day of Bush's appearance. "They had a frequency specialist stop me and ask about the frequency of my camera," Schechter said. "The Democrats weren't doing that at their convention."

Give me a break. There is no way he was wired, he sucked in the first debate, he couldn't have been getting helped.

from the second article: http://www.isbushwired.com/

"Sure, Bush uses an earpiece sometimes," a top Washington editor for Reuters said to me last spring. "State of the Union -- he had an earpiece for that. Everybody knows it," he said, or assumes it.

New York Times:
According to rumors racing across the Internet this week, the rectangular bulge visible between Mr. Bush's shoulder blades was a radio receiver, getting answers from an offstage counselor into a hidden presidential earpiece. The prime suspect was Karl Rove, Mr. Bush's powerful political adviser.

When the online magazine Salon published an article about the rumors on Friday, the speculation reached such a pitch that White House and campaign officials were inundated with calls.

First they said that pictures showing the bulge might have been doctored. But then, when the bulge turned out to be clearly visible in the television footage of the evening, they offered a different explanation. "There was nothing under his suit jacket," said Nicolle Devenish, a campaign spokeswoman. "It was most likely a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a wrinkle in the fabric."

Ms. Devenish could not say why the "rumpling" was rectangular.

Nor was the bulge from a bulletproof vest, according to campaign and White House officials; they said Mr. Bush was not wearing one.

"It's not true. It's ridiculous," Bush campaign spokesman Scott Stanzel said. "Some people have been spending too many hours looking at left-wing conspiracy Web sites," Stanzel said. "Did you hear the one about Elvis moderating the third debate?"
elvis, ha ha...
now tell us what the *!@% that thing was on your candidates back!

Of course Bush was wired. Rove was telling him what to say but Dubya couldnt pull it off.

He probably rebelled against the idea (of a wire) but was forced to submit in order to pacify the folks who are actually in charge of his presidency. He ALWAYS gives in to his handlers. NEVER Flip-Flops on that my friends.

Bush is old school. And not terribly bright. He can't hang or improvise when technology takes a crap.

Maybe there was some kind of delay (that happens a LOT when it comes to audio tech. I worked with bands for years. I KNOW) THIS would cause Ayatollah Dubya to become flustered and pissed off and wondering what he should say.

Did we ACTUALLY think his horrible performance in this debate was based on him actually THINKING about what Kerry was saying?

Of course not. Bush is only comfortable in a crowd full of his minions who adore and never question him, who respond in time to every mindless bumpersticker edict!

Bush is so dumb that he NEEDED a wire and so fearful of pissing off his handlers that he became confused and lost. His NATURAL state. Decisively insipid.

Bush would probably need a wire to answer the question "Whats your favorite Color?"

Lies lies lies. That is all our government does. Bread and circuses - keep the masses mildly entertained or distracted and give them just enough to get them by in life - Bread and circuses - that way, they don't get in our way.

The real tragedy is the complete removal of spines and brains from the media - none of them search, discover or report the truth. Over 100,000 iraqi CIVILIANS have been murdered since this began and what do we hear about on the evening news? We hear about Britney Spears wedding. Too bad it wasn't in Iraq, we could have bombed that wedding party too.

Idiots, all of them, and we get to pay the price, watching our country dissolve into recession and a police state where free speech is restricted to razor wired 'free speech zones'.

You are so over-reacting it isn't even funny.

When was the last time you were saying something bad about this administration and some police officer jailed you? Never. That's what I thought.

You are correct, I have only had this happen to two people I personally know, not to me, and both of them were standing outside of a Bush Rally area holding signs, so obviously, there is nothing to worry about at all. Also, and I hate to disturb you with some basic logic here, but why in hell should I wait until it happens to me to discuss it? Your remark is so amazingly short sighted, that, no, it isn't funny, it's pitiful. But, remember, don't worry about a thing as long as you don't get arrested, that's all that really matters, right? Sheesshhhh - wake up

Badandy

Oh my God. Give me a break. It wasn't short sighted, I was asking. Let me also ask this

-Do you know anyone whose rights have been violated?

And don't give me that one guy on a plane writing on a crossward puzzle the word bomb because he was talking about teen slang.

~yawn again~ are you not capable of reading? Read my post again, yes I do. I consider a third grade school teacher (and personal friend) who gets arrested for holding a Kerry/Edwards sign on a SIDEWALK ALONG THE ROUTE TO A RALLY LOCATION for president Bush. The charge? Disorderly conduct. That is a direct violation of the right to free speech and expression, and to the right of free assembly, both of which are in that crazy document called the United States Constitution. This woman is almost sixty years old, and wouldn't conduct herself in a disorderly way if her life depended on it. These aren't fairy tales, they are the truth and just because you refuse to admit them to yourself does not make them false. Oh, and I capitalized those words so this time you would see them, and not respond with "do you know anyone who has had their rights violated"

Badandy

Yes I can read, but you actually didn't type that in your previous messages in this thread.

And about the teacher. Most likely the person that "arrested" her was a democrat, so unless someone higher up said to arrest democrats it could have been a fluke. Did you also ever consider that she could actually have been doing something having to do with disorderly conduct?

And please don't question my understanding and knowledge of historical documents. You obviousely haven't been on this forum that long because I know what I am talking about when it comes to history whether or not you agree with my point of view.

Thanks for continuing the personal attacks on me. I appreciate that.

Honestly - it happened in every city he went to, do you not read the news? Here's another example of our "compassionate conservative" president's policies at work. This one would be the lovely Patriot Act application that follows - and, no, this is not a fluke either. I totally understand your need to keep your head in the sand on this stuff, to protect your image of the world, but the facts simply don't coincide with your image of america since GW took office, I dearly wish they did. Hold on to your beliefs, it makes you happy and makes you feel safe, and I understand that need, I simply can't take believing the lies anymore. You're obviously not willing to even consider the possibility that what I am saying is true, which is your right, but the fact that you won't even research a little to try to find facts to support your views is indicative of a closed mind, in my opinion. I would jump for joy if you could find facts (not a Fox News theatrical presentation) to prove me wrong - I miss the country I grew up in, the one I was proud of and felt safe in, it's gone.

by the way, lol, check out the date I joined this forum, there big guy, it predates you. I have no desire to really even discuss things with you anymore, and, quite frankly I miss the days of productive LIBERAL discussions on this board - that is the point, is it not?

I don't have a closed mind. I just don't agree with your opinion.

I miss the country I grew up in, the one I was proud of and felt safe in, it's gone.

So are you going to move somewhere like all of your other Hollywood liberal friends?

by the way, lol, check out the date I joined this forum, there big guy, it predates you.

You haven't posted that much before these last few days. Just because you joined first doesn't mean you were active at all.

I have no desire to really even discuss things with you anymore,

Then stop replying to me.

and, quite frankly I miss the days of productive LIBERAL discussions on this board - that is the point, is it not?

Well I believe -V- said it best on one of my first posts on this board. -V- told me to stick in here and don't let people disuade me from posting my opinion. You are talking about close minds and you want opposing opinions to leave? That makes sense...

Last I remember, before I started contributing, or I guess hijacking you would characterize it, I remember maybe 1 post every 2 or 3 days. Seems like it is a lot more active now. I am not saying that all has to do with me, but my differing opinions make liberals feel the need to express their side or just call me an idiot and ignorant as you are.

Interesting violent inference using the term hijacking for what you amuse yourself with here. I have no hollywood friends, actually, but that was a brilliant assumption, once again dazzling us with your I.Q. You are here to, uhm, I believe the term is "troll the boards" - which means that you come here to get a negative reaction from people and evoke a response that you then continue to build. Well, I, for one, have reached the end of my interest in your little game. Farewell.

Badandy

I am not trolling.

This is the think with most democrats except for -V-. When I present the other side of things, which I believe I have on these boards without trolling, you and amy just tell me to leave. On the other hand -V- responds to my arguements however wrong they may be to her/him (sorry tin, don't know). It just seems you don't like to listen to any other opinion than yourself. I guess that''s your problem. I just know in my heart that I have arrived at my persuasion thorooughly listening to all sides of issues and making up my own mind.

Frankly, your continual assault on my intelligence is rather childish and ill-founded. Maybe you can be a little nicer in the future. Seems that you take my sarcastic comments to heart...

Thanks i-V- for encouraging him to stick with it!... lol :D

I thought anartgrey was pretty nice, considering you basically called anartgrey a liar because they did not produce facts to support your case and not theres.. I thought anartgrey did respond to your assumptions that you are right with facts and a very intelligent thought process.. maybe you are more intimidated than you would like to beleive.

Badandy
11/06/04, 12:46 pm
I am not intimidated first of all.

Second, anartgre did not produce any facts, just insulted my intelligence the whole time.

Bravo both of you.
