Today, John Kerry gave his concession speech. Here's mine.

I concede that, while John Kerry was an excellent candidate, our Democratic representatives were again outfoxed by the Republicans who helped seal his fate by not being strong, aggressive, unified, and consistent in their condemnation of the most inept, even criminal administration of our lifetime. 2 years ago, they lost the Congress by not having the courage to contest the Iraq war. Over the past 2 years they couldn't even bring themselves to call Bush a "liar".

I concede that far too many Americans were easily distracted by "terror" and Gay marriage, but while fear, stupidity, and timidity did put this election at risk, it was ultimately another Carl Rove manipulated victory. I concede that I was naive to believe that once this lying, cheating, pack of weasels were operating from within the White House that there was any chance of them being uprooted in 4 years.

I concede that the media was complicit in the lies and corruption by their silence, -- to avoid being punished by the White House or risk losing conservative viewers.

I call upon all progressive Americans to NOT unify under this President. I believe we should peacefully and politely let other Americans know how we feel about their act of betrayal. If an informed American is not ashamed to admit to voting for George W. Bush I will tell them, "You screwed me, my family, and my country and you are no friend of mine". If they strike me across the face, as a true liberal, I will turn the other cheek, and then call them a traitor as well.

This election has shown that we cannot merely depend on our leaders to guide us and our journalists to do their job. We need to continue our grassroots campaign by supporting each other. It works for the religious right and it can work for us too. Get your friends to participate in sites like this one and get your news from progressive websites, radio shows, and newspapers. Even stop supporting news shows like CNN that are so intent on not appearing partisan that they abandon journalistic integrity as well.

Help me put together a list of sites, services, and businesses owned by progressives so that we can support each other and grow. Most importantly, do punish everyone who contributed to the lies and deceptions that resulted in another stolen election but don't punish America by dropping out of the political scene. If you do, they really will have won.

Today, I share in the sadness, the tears, and the frustration. Tomorrow, and every day after that, let's start helping each other get smarter and stronger.

Thank you writing that.. You couldn't have put the thoughts that were running through my head during his speech any clearer...

During this election I don't think I really got out there and was active enough. During the next election I will be handing out flyers, going door to door.. I always feel I shoulda done this or I shoulda done that.. Yes, I actively spoke to my family and yes I feel I was adequate in getting the message out that Bush is EVIL and should not be trusted, but I will not stop until the word is out there so everyone can do by our country better! I will still be around here and just a thought, maybe we could add a section to the board for personal just getting to know people better. just a thought... I thank you for having this website and for all the personal upkeep it probably takes. thank you for taking the time..

I don't think I really got out there and was active enough.

I'm sure you already did more than your share, Amy. You are an innocent victim of this election. It is the Americans that disregarded the truth or didn't even care enough to pay attention who will get what they deserve in the next four years.

maybe we could add a section to the board for personal just getting to know people better

an excellent idea. In the next few days, I will add a general forum for anything that members want to talk about.

My initial reaction to the concession was a feeling that he let us down, that he didn't fight for all the people in Ohio who stood for hours in lines to vote, and that, somehow, he had presented himself as someone other than he really is.
It was an emotional reaction, mixed with disbelief, but at the base of it, there was definitely a feeling of being cheated by the man we thought would at least fight for it. It makes no sense on so many levels, that it is difficult to discuss, but here we are.

Can you ever just admit that Bush won fair and square?

Did it ever occur to you that the country doesn't want that much of a liberal?

Did it ever occur to you that your feelings are so radical you are mostly out of touch with reality?

Can you ever just admit that he got his first term in office by cheating the system, by denying soo many people of their right to VOTE???!!!??

Can you just ever admit that Bush went to war with intentions of stealing oil and finishing up what he thought his Dad should have taken care of???!!!??? no not freeing the people of IRAQ!! THERE WERE NO WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION!

Can you ever admit that your president is a bigot and a homophobe, probably a lot like yourself..??!!??

Can You just admit that he has sent our country into more debt than we will ever EVER get out of... ??!!??? !!!

Can YOU EVER just admit that he is a warmonger and will not stop at anything to steal the rights from gay people, women & anyone who does not beleive in his G-D??!!!???

CAN YOU JUST EVER ADMIT THAT YOUR "President" fixed us all really goood by putting the gay marriage ban on ballots to drive people to get in there and protect their G-D forsaken blessed marriage rights from evil gay folks......

DID it ever occur to you that HALF of AMERICA doesn't want a conservative, warmonger, gay people haten, REPUBLICAN in office!!

amylee I truly admire how passionate you are. I also felt there was more I could have done but unfortunately it is done. What is scaring me more than another 4 years of Bush is how divided the US is. People seem to be really going to the extreme left or the extreme right and the middle ground is getting smaller and smaller creating alot of hatred on both sides and we need less of that not more.

Nice "can you ever" rant Amy. I guess us Aquarians do think alike.

I understand your desire for harmony Coven, but as we have just seen, if there is strong dissagreement on policies that profoundly effect all of us, and we can't count on a reasonable level of honesty and integrity from our government and the media then it is our duty to try and influence the vote one person at a time, no matter how uncomfortable it is to step out of our comfort zone.

The most important progressive changes in our society arose from dis-harmony in our streets rather than a hero in the White House.

It makes me laugh when people claim to have gay and black friends, like it builds your case and makes you look like a decent human being because you have befriended the gay & black.. let me just give you an award for your decent act as a humanist..

I want to understand what makes you state that although you don't support his wanting to change our constitution and your don't agree with his veiws on gays, yet, your let someone this dangerous and manipulative back into an office where he could change your "gay" friends lives forever.. I really want to understand how that can be? How can that be? how do you look at those "friends" in the eyes, knowing you have just voted to make them lesser than you are... How can you claim them as friends, yet elect someone who wants them to not have your basic rights.. How can you sit here and defend your president and his actions, yet you agree that he is doing "just good enough".. IS that what it is comes down to? "good enough".. don't YOU think we deserve better than "good enough".. I don't agree he is doing "just good enough". I beleive he is failing in every sense of the word.. failing ALL of the people in America and the world as a whole.

I want to thank you for coming here.. Although I don't agree with you, i think conflict is good for the soul.. it makes me MORE sure everyday of what & who I don't want to be in this lifetime.. it makes me understand myself and my heart even more than I did yesterday.. It makes me beleive in my views and I hold them dear to my heart ever more... So thank you for coming here and making me see what I don't wish or want to be..

Amy.. you are the mofo bomb...keep it up, i love your mind...

i believe we need to look at this as a lesson to how we can push harder in two yrs, bush will continue to show his true colors and in the end even those who vehemently defend him will have to agree that the man just aint right...

i think we should have a consitutional amendment against presidents who lie and allow Americans to die for oil.. who's on board?

this is something i wrote on wednesday after the concession:

I will not roll over and die, that would make me defeated!
I will not reach across the party lines, that would condone the atrocities!
I will follow Bush for the next four years.
to point out his every flaw.
to look under every rock and into every hiding place of his secret agenda.
to question his decisions and that of his congress.
to question his motives and those of his cohorts.
I will continue to work for the core values and beliefs of my beloved Democratic party who marched with my parents and my grandparents so that I would have
the right to vote,
sit at the front of the bus,
drink from any water fountain,
dine in any restaurant,
go to any school,
pursue any job,
freely speak my mind,
and not live in fear of a public lynching

I will do this because my ancestors were killed IN this country so that I would have the right to do so!
I will do this because my brother was killed FOR this country that I might have the right to do so!

thanks for the welcome....

Hmm, even before we invaded Iraq there was speculation as to whethter or not there were WMDs it was not categorically proven, there were no pictures or hard evidence and even the WMDs that they were speculating Iraq had, they were certain that the capabilities were in no going to reach America's shores. The long range capability was NOT there and all these agencies that you speak of knew that as well. SO why rush? Why invade a SOVEREIGN country that has no capability of attacking even if they HAD WMDs? One of those things that makes you go ...HMMMMMMMMM
It doesnt make me go HMMM though, it makes me go OOOOOIIIIIIIILLLLLLL!

There are at least 15 other brutal dictators in the world some more brutal than Saddam
in countries where citizens are dying by the thousands everyday. Why did we not invade them? OOOOOOIIIIIIILLLLLL! Or lack thereof.

Let's not even talk about Congress. This was after 9/11 and a president with an outrageous approval rating, they were trying to keep there jobs. Plus, they are a bunch of chumps anyway.

Have we taken any oil yet. No! Of course not! You dont take the oil that's not how it works. You put in your own dummy government that you control and then they give it to you because they are so HAPPY that you FREED them from a brutal dictator or so that is what they will tell the American and Iraqi people, but we will all know (those of us who have not been duped by the snow job to begin with) that it was the set up from the beginning.

The bottom line is just that THE BOTTOM LINE. That is what this is about MONEY and POWER.

bush has said that even knowing what he knows now, he wouldnt do anything differently when everybody in the world, even Blair has apologized...
i think it is odd that all those other intelligence agencies have since admitted that they were wrong... have they not?...why hasn't your president..

Very true, Scullyism. But, most americans will not wake up and accept the fact that this has been in the works for quite some time, and they have been blatantly lied to and manipulated to support it. With all the available evidence to attest to that fact, anyone who is still in the dark about it, simple does not want to know.

i think i will have to agree with you anart,
my best friend is an avid bush supporter, we have had discussion upon discussion on the issues..i usually end up backing her into a corner and usually the conversation ends with her saying.. "well, i am not that well informed on that issue, i dont have time to look up all the information".. well, if you are not that well informed on the issue why the hell do you continue to support someone blindly....

on our last political discussion.. (and i do say last b/c i intend to never bring up politics to her again)..i finally got it...you wanna hear what it boils down to.. im about to let you in on a little secret.. dont tell anyone, okay.....

to many of bush supporters, it does not matter that we are in a poorly planned war that should not have happened in the first place, it doesnt matter that she has lost two jobs and has gone from making $30,000/yr to making $19,000/yr, it doesnt matter that her 4 children have gone 2 yrs without a dentist appointment b/c she cant afford to take them, it doesn't matter that she doesnt think bush is all that brilliant and he makes "bad decisions" and that the country as a whole is going in the WRONG direction.. all that matters is he believes in the "sanctity of life" and everything else will fall into place and ....he prays....

I WILL NEVER GET IT!

My god, that is sad, but it is resoundingly what is being said around this country. What is that quote? It's something like, "Even the devil can quote scripture". Well, a Swiss newspaper ran an interview with Robert Kennedy -

Interview with Robert Kennedy

Johannes von Dohnányi
Blick, Switzrland
(Translated by a reader)

Q: Mr. Kennedy, during the election campaign you supported John Kerry. How disappointed are you now about the victory of the Republican George W. Bush?
K: I still haven't got over the shock. Bush is a catastrophe for my country, its economy, the environment and our international relationships.

Q: Most of your fellow citizens have seen this differently. They have elected Bush because of the moral values he represents.
K: I have to tell you something: The top traditional value of the USA is democracy. From here democracy dispersed. The US stands also for fairness, justice and an independent jurisdiction. For the right of the people to control the things themselves that influence their lives directly. And mainly we have fulfilled the expectations the world put on us.

Q: And this is over now?
K: When I was travelling through Europe with my father as a little boy, people were standing on the roads, ten of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands just to see an American politician. Then we were the moral and political leading nation. Streets and places were named after US presidents like Lincoln, Roosevelt or Kennedy. Just one day after the attacks of 9/11 the biggest French newspaper "Le Monde" had a headline: "We are all Americans now".

Q: Such a headline would be impossible today.
K: Exactly. All the international respect and the moral leadership that was built-up over 230 years in the USA, with discipline and visionary leadership, president Bush has given away in just three and a half years.

Q: Is nothing left of it?
K: All that is gone. And just because of the monumental arrogance and incompetence of this one president. The USA is the most hated nation of the world. 5.5 billion people around the world fear and despise us. That's for me the most bitter pill of the Bush presidency. And Americans have no idea about it, how much they are hated around the world. They just won't get informed.

Q: The free American press withholds such information?
K: The media today are the result of a thirty year old strategy of the American right. In the seventies an unholy alliance was built between the environment destroying industries and the right-wing ideologists. First they created right-wing think-tanks in the shadow of the capitol. Then they overtook the media.

Q: Mr. Kennedy - You exaggerate!
K: You think? I tell you: Right-wing, almost right-wing extremists are controlling all 5000 US TV-stations, the 15,000 radio stations and 80% of our print media. The free press, invented in the USA, is now controlled by a Christian taliban. By right-wing extremist, fundamentalist heretics!
*** CONTINUED ON ABOVE POST****

anartgrey
11/08/04, 04:31 pm
****THIS IS THE SECOND PART OF AN INTERVIEW, IT STARTS WITH THE POST DIRECTLY BELOW THIS ONE****

Q: Do you know that the people all over the world see CNN?
K: And do you know that 72% of the Bush-voters still believe that it was Iraq that was behind 9/11? This is the kind of information that will always be distributed by, for example, Fox news. Owned by Rupert Murdoch, this broadcaster distributes such news into US broadcasts. With only the "Los Angeles Times" on the West-coast and the "New York Times" on the East-coast, you can't hold against it. It's just impossible.

Q: And what are the consequences of this situation?
K: You know, I'm at the point of hating radio in the US. In the United States of America today it is like the twenties of the past century in Germany, Italy or Spain. A true brown-shirt attitude takes over. Whoever criticises the government will be branded as unpatriotic. But without a free and critical press the survival of our democracy is very difficult to imagine.

Q: Now you've gone to far!
K: Also in Europe there were the right-wing industrialists who made a pact with fanatical fascists, which until then just existed on the edge of civil society. But with the money of industries... Don't forget - also Hitler was elected democratically - from the people of the most educated nation of the world. And as with Hitler, so also Franco and Mussolini. In the USA we see today a similar pattern. This is pretty scary for those who believe in progress and democracy.

Q: That's strong tobacco - The USA like the pre-nazi Germany!
K: Look at the composition of the cabinet of the Bush government. There are three times more CEOs as in any other previous American government. And they will continue in the levels below of this administration. Everywhere are sitting the lobbyists of the most greedy and destructive industries in the political top-positions.

Q: Can you prove this?
K: The boss of the public forest authority was former lobbyist of the wood industry. The boss of the land conservation authority comes from the mining industry. The top guard of the quality of our air was a lobbyist of the energy industry. The woman that should help us to assert the existing environmental laws, was in the past helping the destroyers of the environment to circumvent just these laws. They didn't go into public service to work for the public welfare. They just there to overthrow the existing laws.

Q: And what about the "compassionate conservatism" Bush declared as his top maxim?
K: For whatever Bush and his people stand for - it's nothing but a fraud. Take the word conservative. It comes from conservation, therefore to keep, preserve. But where do the neo-conservatives preserve? They preach about the free market, but are instead only interested in the well-being of their own multinational groups [companies]. Do you know what I call this?

Q: What?
K: Capitalism for the poor and socialism for the rich. The Bush-people say that they stand for law and order. And then they are the first to release law-breakers. They call themselves Christians and continuously break all rules the Christian faith has given to us. It was given to us to be responsible with earth, to preserve it for future generations. We shall take care of our poor brothers and sisters. It's about this and not the balances of the multinational groups [companies] the Christian teachings talk about. The form of capitalism Bush propagates, that we normally only know from countries like Nigeria, paralyses democracy, our efficiency and reduces our prosperity.

Q: Such a tough self-criticism you don't hear much from the USA.
K: I don't say anything new. We seem to have just forgotten that Abraham Lincoln, the maybe greatest republican of all, said at the peak of the civil war: "I have the Confederacy before me and the bankers behind me, and I fear the bankers most." And Franklin Roosevelt described the control of the government by the power of the multinational groups [companies] as the essence of fascism. Mussonlini preferred to say corporatism. The merging of the state with the power of the multinational groups [companies] is a danger for our democracy.

Q: But you are the heir of the president John F. Kennedy and Robert, his minister of justice, your father. Where is your engagement for the American democracy?
K: Of course I fight back. I do nothing else but fight those guys. I don't know yet what I will do in four years. First the dust has to settle down. But whatever happens - the following four years I will be in a direct fight with these guys. And probably a long time after that.

I'd bet my bottom dollar (and, yes, I can see it these days) that we will never see that in an american paper. Isn't freedom and democracy great? And, yes, of course it is easy to dismiss his thoughts as extreme or misguided, but when you really look at it, and look into the facts, you realize it is horribly true.

hi all:
i am new here but i try to stay informed about whats going on in our country and yes I supported John Kerry for president even though i am from a so. bible belt state... that said i think the devil is indeed in the details. I hate it (the election loss) for our country but having surveyed the election map and the culture war that has been raging for some time, i believe the democratic party will need another B Clinton type, a southern progressive if you will to lead us back from the abyss --no offense to anyone from the northeast but i just don't think we can be competitive anymore with a liberal running for the highest office in the land from New England.

Oh dear, well, luckily I have a job that affords me the opportunity to research on the web. I finally learned over a year and a half ago that checking out some of the more fringe news sites revealed a lot of truth (and a few whacky theories). As I searched more and more of them I noticed that certain stories and information appeared on them all, and realized that within what appeared to be far too much "conspiracy theory to be readable", there were in fact, many kernals of truth. I also realized that not all "conspiracy theories" should be discounted out of hand, but that is another story. I'll tell you the sites I peruse regularly and hope that you will read and challenge what you read, do some research, and find what truth there is. At the very least, although it may challenge you assumptions, it might open some possibilities that not all is as it seems. So --- there are so many, but www.whatreallyhappened.com , www.theunobserver.com , www.newsfrombabylon.com , www.therawstory.com are the ones on the top of my mind, although I also try to check on www.aljazeera.com when it is available just to see what might be there. Basically, I search around, and it is very very likely that as you search around, you can give me some sites to check out. It is all information, and you will be able to tell what seems true and documented and what just seems silly. =).
www.theguardian.com is good, although can be influenced by the mainstream british press - just go explore and see what you find. Remember that an uninformed populace is a wonderful thing for any government, and the fact that one must actively search for tiny slices of the truth out there is testament to the desire of the powers that be to keep us all ignorant and blissful. But, then again, that is just my opinion.

anartgrey
11/08/04, 10:06 pm
I think that you are very close to the mark with that conclusion, Joepol. There is obviously an "abrasive" factor of late with democrats from the northeast and those in the South who want change. I'm not sure what to do or what can be done about that, but it is a good point.

It feels so warm and fuzzy to express ideas and have people actually agree with you. WOW. I live in Indiana where that just does not happen. I have been chased out of many conversations here. I was at a fundraiser for Best Buddies last Friday night before the election and Anthony Shriver was giving his address. He made some political jokes one in which he mentioned Arnold and all the republicans in the room (which was just about everyone) cheered. He then said something about voting for Kerry and there were about 3 dems at my table (including me) who cheered. Seems as though everyone is a repug here. I thought, "How sad to have so many brainwashed individuals in one place." but I was very careful when I left to get into my vehicle. Oh well, I know I am off topic, but I just wanted to let you all know that I appreciate and welcome your views. That's all!

I think the above speech from Nov 2004 was quite moving. However, it was
mentioned about peacefully, and politely letting people know
about their betryal. Well, calling anyone who questions your views/opinions
a Knuckle-dragging, feeble-minded, neo-nazi, communist, moron? how polite
is that?

as for journalistic integrity......can you spell DAN RATHER?
