I do not like Mitt Romney. I was made unhappy while watching this clip of Romney explaining to a wheelchair-bound lifelong muscular dystrophy sufferer that he would indeed arrest him for his "crime". I don't understand how someone who considers himself so religious could so clearly lack compassion: Romney confronted (http://gloob.tv/news/romney_confronted_medical_pot?article=1976)

In short, because the drug war is based on emotion, not reason, and the only way to keep it going is to demonize drugs and drug users because as soon as society at large recognizes that different illegal drugs have different risks and consequences, and that the "gateway" theory is hogwash, the whole thing would fall appart like an acid-soaked house of cards.

I can't say I'm surprised, in my experience religious people (or at least people that claim to be religious) are often very intolerant and self-righteous.

I don't have a problem with mormons or mormonism or religion in general. I just have a problem with someone who prizes compassion and morality and claims to adhere to a strict path so clearly having no compassion and being a sleazy shallow politician. Regardless of my own opinion that marijuana should be decriminalized - I watched the video and realized there were thousands of ways that he could have handled that situation, and he chose the most fearful way, you can see the fear in his eyes.

To tell you the truth, the 'war on drugs' which is the 'war on pot' dates back to the 'war on hemp' from the 1920s an 1930s. It is much more complicated than seeing this from the surface, pot was treated like alcohol before the textile industry got involved.

Secondly, the people in CA who have been able to pass a medical pot initiative now regret it. There are now 1000s of 'doctors' giving out prescriptions for pot for things like hang nails and pimples. It has become a racket.

Personally, I am not sure what the answer is, but, having Mitt Romney completely avoid the issue is not the answer. He is terrible.
