I'm all for keeping this site free. It's important I make that statement at the outset. However, we have an ad for Republican ketchup on our website. It may be good ketchup (although I have my doubts), but I seriously doubt it could be better than Heinz, a ketchup I have grown to know and love over the years. More importantly, it seems a bit against our purpose to have an ad for a ketchup that openly praises Ronald Reagan on our website. Any chance we could screen the ads a bit more, or are we just that stuck for finding sponsors?
That's a good question. The answer is that the Google ads are auto generated. They analyze the current words that appear on the page. If "conservative" or "Republican" appears more than "liberal" or "Democrat" the ads swing to the right.
The advertiser will pay a few cents per click so every ad supports this site either way. I can't complain if conservative advertisers help keep this site running. It's not like CNN who has to watch what they say as to not lose advertisers. In this case, it is up to Google advertisers to block their ads from appearing on sites that are not interested in what they're selling.
Personally, I am interesting in keeping an eye on what the right is selling, literally and figuratively.
By the way, their ketchup is useless. It "trickles down" and does not work with "French" fries. ;)
Heinz rules!
