I've seen a few episodes of Jesse Ventura's Conspiracy Theory (http://www.trutv.com/shows/conspiracy_theory/index.html). It's a shame that the only TV media with the balls to investigate controversial issues is this cheesy cable production that comes across with about as much integrity as the National Inquirer. but so be it. they've exposed some significant information on a few topics and I applaud their chutzpa.

But the theory that they propose on Global Warming -- that it is a scam invented by profiteers, is irresponsible and reprehensible. Why? Because they only spoke to one real scientist on the con side and none on the pro side.

The issue is whether global warming is real, whether we are contributing to it, and what we can do about it. Ventura's show made it seem like it was all about the profiteers all along.

Of course any business opportunity is going to attract shrewd and manipulative business men just out to make a profit. Sure some of them are pushing their agenda for personal and greedy reasons.

But OZONE DEPLETION AND CLIMATE CHANGE HAVE BEEN AROUND LONG BEFORE THE "GLOBAL WARMING" BECAME A HOUSEHOLD TERM AND A MONEY MAKING OPPORTUNITY.

Whether some individuals stand to profit or not doesn't change the fact that we all stand to benefit from CUTTING DOWN ON OUR POLLUTION OF THIS PLANET.

Whether some individuals stand to profit or not doesn't change the fact that we all stand to benefit from CONVERTING TO GREEN, RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES.

Regarding Al Gore, it makes sense that the man invests in what he believes in so strongly.

Jesse, dude, don't be a merciless profiteer yourself,
chasing TV ratings.
Take your rightful place with those who
GO GREEN,
rather than go for the green!

I have followed the physics work of Richard Hoagland among numerous other non-mainstream scientists for many years, mainstream scientists being purely materialist. Hoagland's Hyperdimensional Physics model fits Earth's solar system warming observations. That is NOT to say that people of Earth should not pursue decentralized energy systems such as solar and geothermal power and modular technologies commensurate with electronic recycling strategies that are opposed by corporate NEOCONSERVATIVE Fascist elitists on the bases of wealth and the power it brings them.

The greatest global warming threat to most life on Earth is as follows: ... "Methane clathrate, also called methane hydrate, methane ice or "fire ice" is a solid clathrate compound (more specifically, a clathrate hydrate) in which a large amount of methane is trapped within a crystal structure of water, forming a solid similar to ice." There is much more than enough of that trapped in crystal form beneath Earth's oceans, if it were to be released due to warming, to extinguish most life here on this Earth.

"Although (presently) carbon dioxide is far more abundant and persistent in the atmosphere, ton for ton atmospheric methane traps at least 25 times as much heat."

It's happened before:

All the fountains of the great deep burst open and the floodgates of the sky were opened and the rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. (Gen 7; 11, 12) Fountains: Water instantaneously, dramatically spouting upward due to the release of great quantities of trapped methane in the oceans catastophically increasing the water volume.

"Climate scientists have long warned that global warming could unlock vast stores of the greenhouse gas methane that are frozen into the Arctic permafrost, setting off potentially significant increases in global warming.

Now researchers at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and elsewhere say this change is under way in a little-studied area under the sea, the East Siberian Arctic Shelf, west of the Bering Strait.

Natalia Shakhova, a scientist at the university and a leader of the study, said it was too soon to say whether the findings suggest that a dangerous release of methane looms. In a telephone news conference, she said researchers were only beginning to track the movement of this methane into the atmosphere as the undersea permafrost that traps it degrades.

But climate experts familiar with the new research reported in Friday’s issue of the journal Science that even though it does not suggest imminent climate catastrophe, it is important because of methane’s role as a greenhouse gas. Although carbon dioxide is far more abundant and persistent in the atmosphere, ton for ton atmospheric methane traps at least 25 times as much heat."

Unexpected by traditional scientists, temperatures that are out of season on Saturn are able to be seen at the link below:

... and Earth's Sun has been and will continue to be quite active!

perhaps Jesse should have interviewed Koch, Exxon, and 40 other big businesses that have poured 50 million dollars into funding efforts to deny global warming.

I agree, thats definitely a massive shortcoming of the book, indeed a massive failing of the libertarian and conservative conspiracy crowd. They set real research back years. However Ventura makes up for it with most of what he writes.

This is a review from the very liberal Joe Green which I think you
will appeiciate.

I agree I thought the TV was extremely cheesy! As for his team of experts I saw that wash and I was like god save me. His book however is far, far better.

One of the strangest arguments I have ever heard in denial of global warming came some years ago from a scientist who worked for the oil industry. He was quoting satellite data which suggested that the upper atmosphere was cooling off at about the same rate the surface was warming up. Net global warming: warmer surface + cooler upper atmosphere = zero overall change.

How wonderful! When the surface warms up to much too live on, we can all move to the ionosphere!

Koch-Funded Study Confirms Climate Data

a new study by a well known skeptic and funded mostly by the Koch brothers confirmed that the "climategate" hoax was the hoax

Quoting -V-'s link to Yahoo News:
Some of the most noted scientific skeptics are no longer saying the world isn't warming. Instead, they question how much of it is man-made, view it as less a threat and argue it's too expensive to do something about, Otto said.

Shall we read this again, shall we?
Some of the most noted scientific skeptics...argue it's too expensive to do something about....

Too expensive? And how expensive will it be, when cities have to be moved, or drown? When cropland is swamped by rising waters, when cropland is destroyed by climate change?

America's breadbelt, the Great Plains, will probably turn to desert. Here in the American South, we are expecting our forests to die, our rivers and creeks to dry out, and we will become savannah, or semi-desert. Kiss goodbye those crops which grow well here, but not elsewhere. Scuppernongs, for example - and is there a finer food out there than scuppernong pie? Kiss goodbye the magnificent yellow pine, which grows no where else on Earth, source of the turpentine which keeps the paper feeding through your printer, the rain out of your car.*

Too expensive to do anything about? Much less expensive, thinks I, than fixing the damage it does!

Later, via edit: Just found an interesting article at Science Daily (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/10/111031220600.htm) on the subject of savannahs versus forests. May help to illustrate what's gonna happen when the South turns to the sveldt.

****

*Turpentine turns old rubber into new rubber. If the paper hasn't been feeding properly through your printer/copier/fax/etc, paint the rubber rollers with turpentine, allow to dry a few seconds, paint again, allow to dry, and paint again. Turpentine costs about one dollar at the dollar store, for a several year supply. A hell of a lot cheaper than calling an expensive technician, paying him out the wazoo to...to...to...to paint your rollers with turpentine.

If the rubber seals around your car doors is getting old and brittle, instead of paying a mechanic out the wazoo to replace it, try painting, repainting, and repainting with turpentine. You may save yourself a big repair bill, and keep your car dry.

Biggest jump ever seen in global warming gases
http://news.yahoo.com/biggest-jump-ever-seen-global-warming-gases-183955211.html
The global output of heat-trapping carbon dioxide jumped by the biggest amount on record, the U.S. Department of Energy calculated, a sign of how feeble the world's efforts are at slowing man-made global warming.

instead of decreasing our emissions, we increased them 6% in one year!

at this rate we won't have much longer to worry about fixing all the things
that we have corrupted and broken
we'll eradicate ourselves like a virus feeding upon itself
the earth will shake itself off and go on without us
and a million years from now a future intelligent species
will find our statue of liberty poking out of the sand
