I personally would like to see an amendment that would make the position of President illegal, and that the Federal government be stripped of most of it's power. Let the States be free!
Lately Federal courts have ruled that Federal laws out-weigh State laws (toking to relieve pain laws) and now THE FEDS CAN COME BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR DOCTOR
Man I sure wish linchen was legal!

and it would be in Alabama (for example) if you had your way regarding state power. Once again we are at odds. If we both agree on the need for government, then the laws of that government should apply to both sides of the Alabama border. The imaginery lines on the U.S. map have no bearing on right and wrong. -V-ker with the speed limit or local tax if you want but justice has no bound.

Ok -V-, you win- I dont want to be at odds with you anymore. If you believe that all States should be equal under God (GWB), then ok, what the hell. This way when my State passes policies and laws I dont agree with, ill just have to accept them, versus move to a State or country more in line with my beliefs- opps, well GWB and the Repubs, are spreading their "World Domination", so basically all countrys will end up with the same laws under an emperical rule. How nice- everyone the same.

when that happens I hope you will stay and fight to bring about change rather than leave injustice for others to deal with.
Since I'm guessing you stayed in Texas under Governor Bush and that you have not moved to canada under President Bush I'll assume your points are more argumentitive than ideological.
the murder case depicted in Mississippi Burning is in the news today. It should remind us all that if Mississippi had the power that triple "linchin" only 50 years ago would have been legal and there would be no trial today. That and the nearly 5,000 other lynchings in America is a testiment to what is possible when you put laws in local (or should I say yokul) hands.
Also, coincidentally, in today's news is an apology from the Senate regarding lynchings. Seven presidents between 1890 and 1952 petitioned Congress to pass anti-lynching bills but state Senators, with southern conservatives wielding their filibuster powers, refused to act.
Note: I moved the above posts from the
"2008 presidential candidates" thread to "State Control"

-V-, you have to admit that the literal law can not help any single person- only people can protect other people. We could pass Federal laws of all kinds and we have, but Corporations and other insidious folks manipulate laws and use them to their own advantage.
When a black man was dragged to death and decaptiated in the process, in Jasper Texas, just a few years ago, no law at any level of government could help him. The only good the laws did was prosecute the offenders after the fact, so many laws play on the fear of the consequences and outcomes of anyone who breaks a law. I say that the only way to protect yourself from lynchins, would be not to be found loose and alone on a country road in the middle of the night.
Behavior can not be controlled by laws, only influenced. Laws are more reactive and cant help anyone from someone passionate enough to prosecute any action.
Lynchins that have been prosecuted, are those that have been discovered, there are countless many that we will never know about, along with other unhuman injustices. I say that you and I can agree by convention, that there are many behaviors that we will never be able to control, but with vigilance, we can look out for each other, but dont walk out in the middle of the night and be arrogant enough to believe that criminals care enough to learn how to read the laws on the books, that state what would happen to them, if they happen to be caught, this is just not realistic and sound thinking.
Dont get me wrong I dont support lynchins, But I also dont think someone in Arizona, should tell someone in Texas how to milk their cows or who should be acceptable in what community or which life requires Federal protection. Some issues are local and some issues are loco.
