Because to exclude tax paying gay americans from equal rights to marry someone they're in love with is equal taxation without equal rights. I'm amazed gay people still pay taxes in this country.

Equal tax, equal rights

You know, come to think of it.... what about a special tax refund for gays? Since two single adults cannot marry the person they are in love with, then yes, they should still pay taxes, but not the full amount because they don't get to share in the full rights of other Americans. Too bad I'm not a politician. I'd fight for that just because it's fair.

Why should we preserve a marriage between a man and a woman? It's their job to preserve their own marriage. That also applies to gay couples - they are people too. Genetic differences come in all shapes and forms.

I think the better question is: why should we?

I dont think there should be an ammendment made. for one thing its a pain to change the constitution. another reason, a much better reason, is that for some people marriage is done through a religious institution that they put their faith in. for a majority of these, like Christianity and Islam, marriage is only for a man and woman, BUT there could be people that are in another religion that isnt so mainstream that thinks marriage for homosexuals is ok. An ammendment would clearly violate church/state seperations.

Ok greyjack ~ I'm curious what's conservative about you? So far you sound pretty progressive to me??? (And that's a good thing.) :D

I have no problem with and amendment "to preserve marriage between a man and woman"

It could read "No state shall pass legislation prohibiting marriage between a man and woman" or "marriage between a man and woman shall be allowed"

It's important. Otherwise the queers might try to destroy my family LOL LOL LOL.

Not bad, eh?
I'm feeling really constitutional today. :o)

lol, im more of an economical conservative than a "control all your liberties" conservative. Im hoping a lot thought that the liberals of the country will pick a good candidate because they will most likely win in '08, after all of the messups this administration has made and what happened to the ration of party members in Congress.

Ya' know, greyjack, I'm an economic conservative too. And make no mistake about it plenty of liberals, as well as conservatives, in Congress will get behind legislation that will "control all your liberties". That's why labels are dumb.

I think we need new labels. Or maybe no labels. Maybe we're all just Americans with one hell of a corrupt government on our hands.

For me, marriage is the union of two persons of consenting age that love and care for each other enough to spend the rest of their lives with each other out of their own free will (or at least give it a whirl). As long as those conditions are met, you got the right to marry IMO.

I'm not gay, I just hate the sick idea that the government (and consequently society) has the right to regulate your personal life. IT DOESN'T, THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF FIGHTING TYRANNY.

And as for the "mockery of marriage" types, really, get your head out of Abrahamic religion. That's the whole basis of these alegations and guess what, the world, in spite of what they taught you in sunday school, does not revolve around the bible. For that matter Hollywood celebrities make the worst mockery of the institution with their monthly marriages.
