I woke up on Sept. 24 ... poured myself a hot cup of hazelnut coffee ... turned on the TV looking for reports of the Anti-War Protest in Washington ... no march!!!
I checked CNN ... no protest march!
I turned to MSNBC ... no protest march!
I went to NBC, CBS, ABC ... no protest march!
Desperate ... I turned on FOX ... what march?
Finally I found C-SPAN had one camera pointed at a stage with various anti-war people talking briefly until it switched to a Bush address.
I guess hundreds of thousands of Americans coming from all over America ... filling the streets of Washington to protest in what turned out to be the largest march since the war began ... isn't news.
I raised my coffee cup and shouted ..."Viva democracy and our free press!"

Have you finally uncovered a smoking gun?
I have always said the "Powers that be", wont allow for any change in what is currently U.S. policy.
They control all the "Media" and then spend all day telling us the "media" "is TOO LIBERAL". I wonder why?

Thanks for the response GrateLady1.
I guess my question is ... what do we do?
As for myself, I spit into the wind last weekend and emailed all the major networks with complaints concerning the lack of news coverage.
I think I'm heading for the streets. Time to take back democracy.
Thanks again.

Well, as it has been put in a thread already......."thank You Hurricane Rita..."
I am curious, is that (the protest March) more important to watch then
millions of people evacuating from Katrina or Rita? Shame on our news media
putting the devastation of two huricanes before the protest march !!! UH.. OH
that come full circle about "not caring" dosen't it?

Dear Snowdog ...
I asked myself the same question ... are the weather events usurping all other events? And the answer is no. They covered other things. They just elected not to cover the March.
When hundreds of thousands protest in Washington ... it's news! News corporations with millions at their disposal could of covered this story. They just decided not to.
Remember almost three quarters of the American population were polled recently to be against the war. It was news worthy. That's all.
Thanks for the exchange.
Peace.

I had mentioned it in the thread I had related to earlier, but yes I was a bit
surprized that there wasn't more coverage, whether one is for or against
the March was a very newsworthy event.

<Sigh> I wish I could get Air America. I miss DishTV because I was an ardent viewer of FreeSpeech TV but my landlord terminated her contract with DishTV and went to basic cable instead. At times living down here sucks! :)

I know your pain Lionhearted ... thank God I get FSTV and LINK on DishNetwork.
( DirectTV is part of the Evil Murdoch Empire. Don't buy it and if you have it cancel and get DishNetwork.)
I really feel like I live behind the old Iron Curtain ... where you have to scramble and search for real information and continually sift through propaganda.
And everybody should be aware that there's a bill in Congress that could potentially kill public broadcasting and these very few stations we depend on like LINK & FSTV. They are an endangered species.
There was no anti-war protest. The true anti-war protesters were vastly outnumbered by special interest groups ranging from; those protesting in favor of illegal immigration, anti-capitilism, and there many protesters in the crowd who openly proclaimed their support for the Iraqi Resistance. How is that supporting our troops--supporting the Iraqi resistance??
No wonder the Liberal media was reluctant to splatter these ugly images across the TV screens.

Dear Adolph,
If you're an American, as I am ... I know you're concerned about the state of affairs all Americans find themselves in.
I'm a "liberal" and yet I do NOT condone the 3 MILLION aliens that crossed our borders last year ILLEGALLY. The laws are not enforced. The Bush Administration is doing a dismal job of protecting our borders and protecting American jobs.
I'm a "liberal" and I am definitely PRO-capitalism.
I'm a "liberal" and I don't believe in gun control.
I'm a "liberal" and I believe Clinton's globalization trade policies sold out the American worker. I'm pro-capitalism, but there should be a fair playing field protecting the rights of BOTH management and workers.
My point to all this is ... regardless of our differences ... we are all Americans and we all want a healthier, stronger America. We all want a healthier economy where we can pay our bills and live a decent life.
The people that are "anti-war", like myself, believe we can't AFFORD this war on all levels ... human & financial. It's breaking America's back! The United States spends MORE than all the combined nations of the world on our military. I support our troops and have family there. I want them home. I want an international governing force to temporaryily move into Iraq. It's also what the Iraq people want.
It's time to start taking care of the America again. And a place to start would be Americans "listening" to each other and sharing ideas and solutions in forums like this rather than listening to the talking heads on TV.
Thanks.
nice post What?

Maybe you can get it on your PC? It works for me............ You can conveniently hear AirAmerica by clicking the POL live radio button at the top of every page in this forum.
Well said, What.
I agree on all points.
I'm not hopeful, though, that there is any hope for reconciliation with or redemption for those who continue to blindly support this administration, it's war and who cling so ghoulishly to the blood-soaked tax cuts with which he purchased their minds, bodies and souls.
80% of Republicans still support this sad, inept, morally bankrupt administration and refuse to hold them accountable. Tribalism is alive and well in America.

Dear -V- and JamesP,
Thank you both for the kind words.
And thank you, JamesP, for your articulate description of the way hopelessness feels for people like us who believe in peace and social justice.
I often wondered how the 'good people' of Germany felt watching the rise of the Nazis. Why didn't they rise up as one and stop it? I now understand.
But this I know JamesP ... we CANNOT succomb and join in their hateful ways. If we do, we become the base, hostile beings they are. That is NOT what the world needs right now. The world needs Americans like us. They're depending on us.
Here's my mantra I came up with years ago that keeps me centered ...
YOU CANNOT FIGHT DEHUMANIZATION WITH DEHUMANIZATION.
I don't mean to sound corny, but the only way out ... is love.
Thanks again,
Peace.

I see this as the main difference between "us" and "them".
I personally disagree with most the points in your post, but I would be willing to wager that you and I could discuss our differences and while it may not always be amicable, I doubt it would degenerate into a vitrolic filled, name calling hate-fest.
However, with those that continually tell us how great this administration is and how naive and/or dangerous liberals are, I have no problem being just a vicious and mean-spirited as they are. Go to any conservative board and you can see how they "debate" or for that matter look on this board at some who have come here. These folks simply cannot be reasoned with and to try and do so would be a monumental waste of time.
What? your attempt to reason with "Adolph" is extremely admirable.
How I would have answered him is not allowed on this board. :D

Thanks Lionhearted ... I feel we would generally agree about the BIG issues and have a good time bickering about the little things.
As far as "Adolph" is concerned ... I'm nice to all people. I cannot hate someone because of what they believe. If I start doing that ... I become just like "them". And it's an ugly state of existence to walk around hating.
"Adolph" has to diminish the nearly HALF a million Americans citizens who filled the streets of Washington as outcasts, trouble makers, anti-American ... yadda, yadda, yadda.
His only other option would be to think and consider. Think about why so many tax-paying American citizens spent money, time and energy to exercise their patriotic right to protest their government, when their government is not acting in the best interest of it's citizenry.
I rarely see or meet conservatives with the ability to consider a different perspective. Liberals, by their very nature ... have 'liberal', mutable, open-to-change attitudes.
I doubt it would degenerate into a vitrolic filled, name calling hate-fest.
Sir Lionhearted sure is prone to emotional dramatics, isn't he? Maybe when Sir Lionhearted comes down off of his self-rightous plane, he could be so kind and point out to the mean, hate-mongering Adolph where and when I said anything that deginerated into what you have so falsly described above.

I noticed that you didn't refute any of the points that I made. And what's with the little empty veiled remark at the end of your post? Is that what you call being reasonable?

Quite possibly what you say is true, though I never directly implicated you, I can see where you may have thought that.
I noticed that you didn't refute any of the points that I made. And what's with the little empty veiled remark at the end of your post? Is that what you call being reasonable?
Quite right there and in all honesty, I began this post with the intention of doing so. However, what would be the point? My feelings are that you probably would not take the time to read any links I posted and if you did, would in all likelihood regurgitate more "liberal media" hyperbole.
On that note:
The true anti-war protesters were vastly outnumbered by special interest groups ranging from; those protesting in favor of illegal immigration, anti-capitilism, and there many protesters in the crowd who openly proclaimed their support for the Iraqi Resistance. Can you offer any proof or credible sources for this? If so I would be happy to take a look.

C-SPAN'S coverage was very good. Unlike the other MSM outlets they just let the cameras run and didn't edit out the groups that had nothing to do with the so called "anti-war" movement.
I'll take a look around and see if there is anything I can actualy paste on here.
The well intentioned anti-war protesters (which from what I saw where the minority that day) need to be very carefull about the company that they keep.

Adolph:
Perhaps this is along the lines of what you were speaking of in your ealier post:
Inside the Anti-War Demo (http://www.nationalreview.com/york/york200509260814.asp)
As much as it pains me to say this, I am afraid I will have to agree with Jesse Jackson, in essence, a great many folks with other agendas are going to jump at the chance to speak in front of such a large audience. However the war or rather opposition to the war is what brought such a large, diverse group of people together.
Now as for the charge that the protests sponsor, International ANSWER is a neo-Communist organization, here is a link to their website (http://www.internationalanswer.org/), take a look at it an judge for yourself.
Speaking only for myself, I do not believe so. As a child of the Vietnam era, I remember too well how those in power will use whatever means necessary to demonize and/or infiltrate groups that oppose them. But that is just me.
