View our full featured site -> : Star Trek (the original)
The first inter-racial, inter-national, inter-planetary cast on TV. Star Trek helped us to think progressively by stepping outside the box. The "box" being our culture, our traditions, our country, and our world. Its creator, Gene Rodenberry, was able to "boldly go where no man has gone before" and tackle the ills of society by thinly disquising them on distant planets in a stardate far far away. With the aid of their transporter beam and some really cheap props the crew of the USS Enterprise managed to straighten out misquided societies ranging from Ancient Rome and gangsterland Chicago to Nazi Germany.
The shows liberal leanings were rarely as obvious as the episode featuring one alien bent on the destruction of another citizen of his planet whom he calls "an inferior breed" because of the color of his skin. Though both aliens faces are black on one side and white on the other, one of them is black on the right side and the other is white on the right side. The alien calls Kirk "an idealistic dreamer for trying to bring them to peace.
Enterprise to Earth: May your future generations apply the compassion of Dr. McCoy, the logic of Spock, and the courage and leadership of Captain Kirk to all your earthly issues.

I like the original Star Trek too. Although I've watched it a long time ago and even forgot some of the scenes and stories( by episodes), and would like to watch it again and possibly start on the first episode.
you can watch all of the episodes on Netflix.
the best may have been the second pilot which started it all:
"Where No Man Has Gone Before"
about absolute power corrupting absolutely

Funny, as you say that my other half is watching Star Trek, the name escapes me, the one that came after The Next Generation so he could watch the Borg get destroyed almost. After watching the first 100 episodes of the Next Generation on Netflix, he wanted to see the "win."
good remakes or "re-imaginings" of a movie or show are very rare and series of The Next Generation and the others that followed are no exception. i couldn't watch more than 10 minutes of any of them
the audacity of the producers to replace the virile and courageous Captain Kirk with a bald guy with an English accent, substitute the female crew's short skirts with body suits, throw in a guy with a carburetor air filter over his eyes and another one with a badly painted silver face that's supposed to pass for a robot, and replace morality plots with i-don't-know-what because there's so much sci-fi jargon only a techno nerd could follow it!
no heart and soul, and i would imagine, not liberal
the newest Star Trek movie, however, was not bad because it captured the essence of the original cast/crew

Beautiful, I had never looked at it that way and I get the feeling too many fans didn't either. I hope we change as a country. I did always like the explanation of the federation, doing away with money and materialness (though the captain seems to have some prized materials lol)
