From http://www.participantproductions.com/ "Participant believes in the power of media to create great social change. Our goal is to deliver compelling entertainment that will inspire audiences to get involved in the issues that affect us all."

I noticed the Participant logo when I saw North Country (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0395972/) where Charlize Theron played a northern Minnesota miner who was attacked repeatedly for taking "men's jobs." Then I saw the logo again, about a week later, when I saw "Good Night, And Good Luck" (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0433383/) about legendary journalist Edward R. Murrow went after Senator Joseph McCarthy. I thought to myself "Holy smokes! There's the liberal media I've been hearing so much about!" Much as I enjoyed these two movies, they danced the line on propaganda. A liberal watching "Good Night" leaves the theatre with the same sort of exhilaration that the religious right felt at the end of that Jesus movie.

So, I went home and checked out their web site. The result of which is that I'm waiting with watering-mouth for the November 23 limited release of their movie on America's addiction to oil, Syriana. (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0365737/)

Anyway, if you need a little liberal-friendly escapism, check out one of their flicks. So far, I've enjoyed them all immensely.
