At the beginning of each new year we would like to recognize members who personify the spirit of progressiveness, who have made significant contextual contributions, or who have simply given us memorable moments.

And the winner of the first award is...

Ah! I was wondering where that came from. :) Thank you all. [Bows]

It's been a wonderfull 500 posts too. It's amazing where the time went. This is a fun place. More people should post here.

Prometheus by Paul L Dunbar.

Prometheus stole from Heaven the sacred fire
And swept to Earth with it o'er land and sea.
He lit the vestal flames of poesy,
Content, for this, to brave celestial ire.

Wroth were the gods, who with eternal hate
Pursued the fearless one who ravished Heaven
That earth might hold in fee the perfect leaven
To lift men's souls above their low estate.

But judge you now when poets wield the pen,
Think you not well the wrong has been repaired?
'Twas all in vain that ill Prometheus fared:
The fire has been returned to Heaven again!

We have no singers like the ones whose not
Gave challenge to the noblest warbler's song.
We have no voice so mellow, sweet, and strong
As that which broke from Shelley's golden throat.

The measure of our songs is our desires:
We tinkle where old poets used to storm.
We lack their substance, tho' we keep their form:
We strum our banjo-strings and call them lyres.

I'd like to give a little notice to the fact of our resident news bloodhound Magi posting her one thousandth post. For being a dilligent detective, I nominate that she gets the POL Helen Thomas award (if there is such a thing).

Good work! Here's to the next thousand.

Newbie, there's a chicken in a truckstop in Arkansas that could give you lessons in written English. Of course, the chicken's political discourse is probably more advanced than yours, so maybe you two should just switch places. While you think that over, I'll give you some pointers:

This contest is riged[1].[2] I want a re count[3](al gore [4],[5],[6]). Why did [7] you give fdr follower [8] the award?[9] there[10] avatar doesn't [10] make sense.[11] lincoln [12] and fdr[13] together.[14] i[15] don't [16] think so.[17] there[18] views are so different.

I think 'rigged' is the word you're looking for.
Finish sentences with a period.
'Recount' is the word you're looking for.
Capitalize proper nouns.
Capitalize proper nouns.
A parenthetical clause like this should be a complete thought.
"Why you give?" You're kidding, right?
I can't fathom the thought process behind adding a space to the middle of someone's name.
Finish questions with the question mark: "?"
Intensely messed up. I think you were shooting for "their," but "his" is the correct word here.
"Doesn't" has an apostrophe.
Finish sentences with a period.
Capitalize proper nouns.
Capitalize acronyms.
Finish sentences with a period.
Capitalize the first word in a sentence. Capitalize the personal pronoun "I."
"Don't" has an apostrophe.
Finish sentences with a period.
The word you're looking for is "Their"

Newbie seems to suffer the horrible effects of the texting disease, where you murder the english language in the name of expediency.

Why are Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt used in my avatar you ask?

They were the two presidents who were the most successfull at launching great rebuilding projects during great crisis', following in the footsteps of first, Alexander Hamilton, and then Henry Clay.

The economic model Lincoln and FDR used is called the "American System of Political Economy", whereby our federal government has sovereign constitutional control over the issue of currency and credit, as opposed to being subservient to private financial interests. In the 19th century, that was done through the chartering of a National Bank, but since the Wall St./slave interests killed that (through president Polk), Lincoln used the Greenbacks, and FDR used a re-chartered Reconstruction Finance Corporation as national banks without the name.

You guys, haus and FDR, are both TOO funny!!! :sunny:

But be nice to our little Newbie. He's really just a blank slate at this point. The kid is not thinking for himself yet. And when he starts to think he just may remember that liberals were nice to him, tolerated him, put up with him. Just maybe?

Alright, I'm shutting up again. Gotta dance .... gotta dance .... :jumpjoy:
