Do Americans Know the Whole Truth About 9-11?

A group of scholars have created a website with 20 reasons to question the official story of 9/11



(1) The 9-11 Commission refused to examine the vast majority of evidence about 9/11, and even the former director of the FBI says there was a cover up by the 9/11 Commission.


(2) The tape of interviews of air traffic controllers on-duty on 9/11 was intentionally destroyed by crushing the cassette by hand, cutting the tape into little pieces, and then dropping the pieces in different trash cans around the building.


(3) Investigators for the Congressional Joint Inquiry discovered that an FBI informant had hosted and rented a room to two hijackers in 2000 and that, when the Inquiry sought to interview the informant, the FBI refused outright, and then hid him in an unknown location, and that a high-level FBI official stated these blocking maneuvers were undertaken under orders from the White House.


(4) A retired Air Force Colonel who flew over 100 combat missions and was the director of the Star Wars defense program under both Republican and Democratic administrations (and a member of Scholars for 9/11 Truth) recently said: "If our government had merely done nothing, and allowed normal procedures to happen on that morning of 9/11, the twin towers would still be standing, and thousands of dead Americans would still be alive. That is treason!"


(5) Recently declassified documents show that in the 1960's, the American Joint Chiefs of Staff signed off on a plan to blow up AMERICAN airplanes (using an elaborate plan involving the switching of airplanes), and also committing terrorist murders against U.S. citizens on American soil, and then blaming it on the Cubans in order to justify an invasion of Cuba.


(6) The Secret Service, which is highly trained to whisk the president away from danger and to a secure location in the event of a threat, breached all standard procedures and allowed President Bush to remain at a highly-publicized location for 25 minutes after it was known that the nation was under attack.


(7) The U.S. defense agency responsible for protecting the U.S. had run drills for several years of planes being used as weapons against the World Trade Center and other U.S. high-profile buildings, and "numerous types of civilian and military aircraft were used as mock hijacked aircraft". In other words, drills using REAL AIRCRAFT simulating terrorist attacks crashing jets into buildings, including the twin towers, were run.


(8) The military had also conducted drills of planes crashing into the Pentagon.


(9) On the morning of 9/11, 5 war games and terror drills were being conducted by several U.S. defense agencies, including one "live fly" exercise using REAL planes. And the drills apparently included the injection of false "radar blips" onto the screens of air traffic controllers.


(10) The government was running a simulation of a plane crashing into a building on the morning of 9/11.


(11) While the government has consistently stated that it did not know where the aircraft were before they struck, the Secretary of Transportation testified before the 9/11 Commission that Vice President Cheney monitored flight 77 for many miles as it approached the Pentagon.


(12) A third world trade center building, called building 7, collapsed on the afternoon of 9/11, but was never hit by plane, fell at the same speed as if there were no floors or walls to cause resistance, contained only small fires before the collapse, and became the first steel-frame building in history to collapse due to fire alone.


(13) USA Today stated that the FBI believed that bombs in the buildings brought the buildings down.


(14) MSNBC stated that police officials believe "that one of the explosions at the world trade center . . . may have been caused by a van that was parked in the building that may have had some kind of explosive device in it, so their fear is that there may have been explosive devices planted either in the building or in the adjacent area."


(15) The NY Fire Department Chief of Safety stated there were "bombs" and "secondary devices", which caused the explosions in the buildings.


(16) NYC firefighters who witnessed attacks stated that it looked like there were bombs in the buildings. A NYC firefighter stated "On the last trip up a bomb went off. We think there was bombs set in the building."


(17) The head of a national demolition association stated that the collapse of the towers looked like a "classic controlled demolition."


(18) Eyewitnesses have testified that substantial explosions occurred well BELOW the area impacted by the planes, and -- according to some witnesses -- they occurred BEFORE the plane had even hit.


(19) A police officer testified that there were numerous, HUGE explosions at the top of one of the twin towers 15 minutes apart, before the tower collapsed.


(20) Numerous, credible ex-government officials are warning that the U.S. government might very well attack its own people to justify a further clampdown on civil rights and to justify additional wars.

These are the first satellite image showing the section of the building that was hit by the Boeing. The second ring of the building is also visible. It is clear that the aircraft only hit the first ring. The four interior rings remain intact. They were only fire-damaged after the initial explosion.

Can you explain how a Boeing 757-200, weighing nearly 100 tons and travelling at a minimum speed of 250 miles an hour when landing (600 mph in flight) only damaged the outside of the Pentagon?

And where is this large plane? Where are the wings? The plane debris?

In these two choices, could you change Pearl Harbor to Reichtag Fire? That's more relevent to the gang in the administration, since most of them are protoge's of former Nazi's.

Pearl Harbor is way different. The British organized Japan to attack us, and that was known from the 1920's, thanks to Gen. Billy Mitchell.

Although... a number of international terrorist organizations have their headquarters in London, including Osama Bin London, who still has a mansion there, I think and organized attacks on us from there (like the Khobar Towers). And we do know that Cheney is run by his wife, who's had long standing ties to the Fabian Society in London, which has been a pro-fascist organization for awhile.

I hear you. It was a very hard poll to write. -V- is very busy on the total renovation, but maybe we can deal with the poll in the near future.

The idea that there are powerbrokers in our country and in the western world that would actually plan or help orchestrate an attack on the United States just isn't in the reasoning capabilities of the majority of American minds. Europeans find it much easier to grasp without difficulty.

But, the more I study, read and question the events of 9-11 I don't know what other conclusion to come to. Our military 'stood down' when they never do ... skyscrapers collapsed from airplane hits when they never do ... other buildings collasped that weren't even hit ... people in New York heard random explosions going off ... big stock options were placed and never collected ... the huge plane that hit the Pentagon went where? ... and while we're being attacked our goofy President sits in a public place breaking Secret Service rules reading to children??? I remember watching the whole terrible morning of 9-11 on TV and screaming over and over ... where is NORAD? Where is NORAD??? And thinking, "What the hell is going on here?"

No, i'm not too surprised you haven't. It's old British policy to let terrorists carry out acts against other countries from there.

I'm pretty sure, you might remember the recent Russian/Afghanistan conflict, launched by the insane Zbigniew Brzezinski (as Carters NSA), and the subsequent arming of an Islamic Jihad, the Afghansi (of which OBL was a minor officer) against the 'Godless Communists' with proceeds from drug sales, both from the poppy fields of Afghanistan and coca fields of Columbia.

Back in '96, BBC interviewed Saudi expatriate Mohammed al-Massari, who's movement (based in London) Committee for the Defense of Legitimate Rights claimed responsabilty for the bombing of the Military barracks in Khobar Saudi Arabia. The British government had granted him a 4 year refugee permit just a couple of months before.

His ally, Osama bin Laden, owned a residence in Wembly, a London suburb, which OBL had his Advise and Reform Commission HQ. July '96 he told the London Independent "What happened in Khobar is a clear proof of the enormous rage of the Saudi population against them. Resistance against America will spread in may places through Muslim lands."

I just read the entire article written by Terry J. Allen from "In These Times" you provided and frankly it said absolutely nothing. It just tediously attempted to debunk other people supplying nothing else in it's place.

There are just TOO MANY strange aspects and TOO MUCH unexplained occurences with the events of 9-11 NOT to question our government. And why the hell can't Americans question the government? Ya' know, the people that work for us? And why does it have to be perceived as "conspiracy wacko stuff" when people question THEIR government?

Why did the FBI show up and confiscate ALL video cameras from every hotel and gas station FIVE MINUTES after the Pentagon crash? Why can't the public see these videos? What do they show? What are they hiding? And then people have the nerve to call Americans with lingering doubts "conspiracry theory nuts"? It's our right to know.

The first thing I want to say is that I agree with you that Americans should question their government. Nothing wrong with that. I think it's good that we're talking about this. However, we need to approach this subject from a critical and objective viewpoint. In an article scheduled to be on newsstands today, Vanity Fair magazine reports aspects of the commission debate -- though it does not mention the possible criminal referrals -- and publishes lengthy excerpts from military audiotapes recorded on Sept. 11. ABC News aired excerpts last night.

For more than two years after the attacks, officials with NORAD and the FAA provided inaccurate information about the response to the hijackings in testimony and media appearances. Authorities suggested that U.S. air defenses had reacted quickly, that jets had been scrambled in response to the last two hijackings and that fighters were prepared to shoot down United Airlines Flight 93 if it threatened Washington.

In fact, the commission reported a year later, audiotapes from NORAD's Northeast headquarters and other evidence showed clearly that the military never had any of the hijacked airliners in its sights and at one point chased a phantom aircraft -- American Airlines Flight 11 -- long after it had crashed into the World Trade Center.

Maj. Gen. Larry Arnold and Col. Alan Scott told the commission that NORAD had begun tracking United 93 at 9:16 a.m., but the commission determined that the airliner was not hijacked until 12 minutes later. The military was not aware of the flight until after it had crashed in Pennsylvania.

These and other discrepancies did not become clear until the commission, forced to use subpoenas, obtained audiotapes from the FAA and NORAD, officials said. The agencies' reluctance to release the tapes -- along with e-mails, erroneous public statements and other evidence -- led some of the panel's staff members and commissioners to believe that authorities sought to mislead the commission and the public about what happened on Sept. 11.

"I was shocked at how different the truth was from the way it was described," John Farmer, a former New Jersey attorney general who led the staff inquiry into events on Sept. 11, said in a recent interview. "The tapes told a radically different story from what had been told to us and the public for two years. . . . This is not spin. This is not true."

Sorry that it took me a while to respond.


I've studied the links you provided before and reviewed them again. Let me just say providing a link by a Fox News contributor doesn't evoke confidence in me. And the Popular Mechanics article was witten by a 24 yr. old "expert" with ties to Bush administration. His article was ripped apart a long time ago.

But, we could go back and forth with online links 'proving' either side of 9-11 ... how about just using some common sense oursleves. There's an enormous cloud of suspicion over our government and the Bush Administration from all sorts of people who are experts in their fields. Why doesn't the government “come clean,” releasing information thus far withheld from the American people?

Can you answer these starter question?


(1) Why were there no Arab names on the passenger lists provided by the airlines?

(2) What exactly is the status of the remote control system which conspiracy theorists say was used to hijack the airliners — a system designed to thwart hijackers by moving control from the cockpit to ground controllers.

(3) Why not release all the photographic evidence of flight 77 that was collected from every hotel, gas station, etc. by the FBI minutes after it flew into the Pentagon?

(4) Why did John Ashcroft and top Pentagon officials cancel plans to fly commercial airlines the morning of 9/11? If they knew what was about to happen, why wasn’t it stopped?

(5) Who made all the millions of dollars selling short United and American Airlines just before 9/11? The hijackers obviously had no use for the money. Who besides them knew that those two particular airlines were going to suffer devastating losses on 9/11? Our intelligence agencies have Promis software that detects unusual stock trades. These trades were 25 times as great as usual. If, as has been reported, alarm bells were going off at our intelligence agencies on 9/10, why didn’t they beef up security on United and American flights? I don't really see where it's relevant. Hundreds of people saw the plane fly into the Pentagon. It doesn't necessarily mean that the government has something to hide just because the FBI is holding on to those videos. It's probably standard procedure to do stuff like that.

John Ashcroft had stopped flying commercial airlines for work-related uses in July 2001. Ashcroft claimed that he and his family still flew commercial airlines for private use. Michael Moore was going to mention this in his movie "Fahrenheit 9/11" until his fact-checking team found out that Ashcroft had indeed flown commercial at least twice that summer.

Well the 9/11 Commission looked into this and said that the trades were mostly from a single investor who had followed the advice of an options trading newsletter. Whether you want to believe them or not is up to you. Apparently there were some high volume trades earlier that year as well, some even exceeding the ones just before 9/11. Both of the airlines' stock had been going down, and American Airlines had announced a string of bad news days before.It was probably a good idea at the time to sell short airline stock.

When you think about it, it would have taken an awful lot of people for the government to be involved in 9/11-- people who could keep a secret, people who could put aside moral and ethical considerations, and people willing to take the risk. 9/11 Was an Inside Job
The raccoon’s disgusting, bloated carcass made a wheezing sound as I poked it with the stick. I watched as it floated across the brackish water and came to a rest between Rachel Corrie’s concrete thighs.

It'd been a long, emotional week full of heartache and sorrow at Evergreen State College, and now there was a dead raccoon floating in our 9/11 Reflection Pond. Students erected the tiny pool shortly after the “attacks” to honor those who lost their lives as a result of Bush’s pro-Israel policies. Little did they know that Bush would use it as roadkill receptacle. I suppose it was his twisted way of warning me that I was getting too close to the truth about what really happened on 9/11.

Everyone knows it was an inside job. But I've only recently come to understand how deeply inside it really is. Let's take a quick look at some of the facts:

1. The Pentagon. Charlie Sheen and other members of the Brat Pack have already concluded that the lack of any debris or human remains at the crash site proves it was not a commercial aircraft that hit the Pentagon. That means everyone aboard doomed American Airlines Flight 77 – the pilot, the crew, and the passengers - never died in that crash. So where are they? Who knows? Perhaps they’re all relaxing on a beach in Tahiti, enjoying the millions they were awarded in insurance money for their staged deaths.

2. United 93. It’s a known fact that cell phones will not work on commercial aircraft due to a magical forcefield that surrounds the entire hull. Yet the families of those who “died” on United Airlines Flight 93 claim to have received phone calls from their loved ones in the moments leading up to the crash. One must therefore conclude that either the families are lying about the calls, or the calls were never made from that plane. In either case, both the passengers and their families had to have been in on it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re all at the beach with the Flight 77 jokers, having a good laugh on all of us.

3. The World Trade Center. Anyone who has ever seen two skyscrapers hit by planes knows that they don’t pancake in on themselves in a controlled manner. For the towers to come down the way they did, hundreds of implosion engineers would need to spend days, maybe even weeks placing explosives in strategic locations on numerous floors. They’d have to drill holes in the concrete, saw through steel beams, and run a network of wires throughout the entire building. Such a massive project would be next to impossible to perform without being noticed by the thousands of people who worked in the towers every day. So the only explanation is that they were all in on it. Everyone who died in the towers, everyone who survived, every firefighter and every cop who rushed into the burning buildings to “rescue” people - they were all in on it. The passengers on the planes, the pilots, the crew, and the cab drivers that took them to airport were in on it. The people at the ticket counter were in on it. The guys who loaded the luggage onto the fictional planes were in on it. Those dudes who vacuum the carpet and put new barf bags in the seat pockets before you board, and even the food service people were all in on it. The air traffic controllers who tracked the hijacked aircraft were also in on it. Everyone on the ground who claimed to see the planes hit the building, and every TV cameraman who faked footage of the “attack” were in on it, too.

Obviously, the 9/11 conspiracy is of a grander scale than any of us could have possibly imagined. Thousands, if not millions of people had to be in cahoots with Bush in order to pull the whole thing off. In fact, odds are that you’re all in on it as well.

But I’m on to you.

The reason most Americans don't believe the "official story" of 9-11 is because too many things don't make sense. When anyone does simple, honest research on some basic questions you realize the "official story" is impossible.

Here's an example:

Steel collapses and melts at 2750 degrees. The temperature at the WTC's was about 1250 degrees. A steel core skyscraper in Madrid was hit by a similar jet and a fire burned for 20 hours and the steel held strong. Yet the WTC buildings collapsed from fire after an hour? How is it possible that the enormous steel core of the WTC melted? It's impossible. The "official story" is impossible.

This is a non-partisan issue. You have people on the left and right agreeing and proving the "official story" is fantasy.

Oct. 17: President Bush signs into law legislation that authorizes tough interrogation of terror suspects and smooths the way for their trials before military commissions.

WASHINGTON - President Bush signed legislation Tuesday authorizing tough interrogation of terror suspects and smoothing the way for trials before military commissions, calling it a "vital tool" in the war against terrorism.

Bush's plan for treatment of the terror suspects became law just six weeks after he acknowledged that the CIA had been secretly interrogating suspected terrorists overseas and pressed Congress to quickly give authority to try them in military commissions.

"With the bill I'm about to sign, the men our intelligence officials believe orchestrated the murder of nearly 3,000 innocent people will face justice," Bush said.

Among those the United States hopes to try are Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the accused mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks, as well as Ramzi Binalshibh, an alleged would-be 9/11 hijacker, and Abu Zubaydah, who was believed to be a link between Osama bin Laden and many al-Qaida cells.

Introduction

President Bush is signing into law new standards expediting interrogation and prosecution of terror suspects. Click on an item in the left-hand column to see more specifics about that portion of the measure.

Bush signed the bill in the White House East Room, at a table with a sign positioned on the front that said "Protecting America." He said he signed it in memory of the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.

"We will answer brutal murder with patient justice," Bush said. "Those who kill the innocent will be held to account."

High-profile witnesses

Among those in the audience were military officers, lawmakers who helped pass the bill and members of Bush's Cabinet.

He singled out for praise, among others, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, who has come under sharp criticism in recent months as violence has soared in Iraq.

The law protects detainees from blatant abuses during questioning _ such as rape, torture and "cruel and inhuman" treatment _ but does not require that any of them be granted legal counsel. Also, it specifically bars detainees from filing habeas corpus petitions challenging their detentions in federal courts. Bush said the process is "fair, lawful and necessary."

"The bill I sign today helps secure this country and it sends a clear message: This nation is patient and decent and fair and we will never back down from threats to our freedom," Bush said. "We are as determined today as we were on the morning of Sept. 12, 2001."

Democratic response

Many Democrats opposed the legislation because they said it eliminated rights of defendants considered fundamental to American values, such as a person's ability to go to court to protest their detention and the use of coerced testimony as evidence. Bush acknowledged that the law came amid dispute.

"Over the past few months, the debate over this bill has been heated and the questions raised can seem complex," he said. "Yet, with the distance of history, the questions will be narrowed and few. Did this generation of Americans take the threat seriously? And did we do what it takes to defeat that threat?"

The American Civil Liberties Union said the new law is "one of the worst civil liberties measures ever enacted in American history."

"The president can now, with the approval of Congress, indefinitely hold people without charge, take away protections against horrific abuse, put people on trial based on hearsay evidence, authorize trials that can sentence people to death based on testimony literally beaten out of witnesses, and slam shut the courthouse door for habeas petitions," said ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero.

"Nothing could be further from the American values we all hold in our hearts than the Military Commissions Act," he said.

White House victory

The swift implementation of the law is a rare bit of good news for Bush as casualties mount in Iraq in daily violence. Lawmakers are increasingly calling for a change of strategy and political anxieties are jeopardizing Republican's chances of hanging onto control of Congress.

Bush needed the legislation because the Supreme Court in June said the administration's plan for trying detainees in military tribunals violated U.S. and international law.

The legislation, which sets the rules for court proceedings, applies to those selected by the military for prosecution and leaves mostly unaffected the majority of the 14,000 prisoners in U.S. custody, most of whom are in Iraq.

The Pentagon had previously selected 10 prisoners at Guantanamo Bay prison to be tried. Bush is expected also to try some or all the 14 suspects held by the CIA in secret prisons and recently transferred to military custody at Guantanamo.

The bill also eliminates some rights common in military and civilian courts. For example, the commission would be allowed to consider hearsay evidence so long as a judge determined it was reliable. Hearsay is barred from civilian courts.

The legislation also says the president can "interpret the meaning and application" of international standards for prisoner treatment, a provision intended to allow him to authorize aggressive interrogation methods that might otherwise be seen as illegal by international courts. White House press secretary Tony Snow said Bush would probably eventually issue an executive order that would describe his interpretation, but those documents are not usually made public and Snow did not reveal when it might be issued.

I wouldn't say that I rely heavily on the Popular Mechanics story; I just thought it was something worth mentioning at the time. Just saw 9/11 Mysteries as per your link, Jane. Chilling. Very professional production. And thorough. Everyone should WATCH IT! Even if you think conspiracy theories are a joke but like horror movies this should not be missed because the "what if" factor is scarier than any other horror film you could rent at Blockbuster.

I'm sure critics will dispel parts of it and then simply dismiss the rest. But this film raises about 100 questions. And all of them should be answered! This country's journalists might find the time to do so if they cut back on the J.B. Ramsey investigation and the other exploitative news stories they milk for ratings.

As I watched I felt like a fool for being gullable about some things that I knew logically, visually and instinctively didn't make sense regarding the events of 9/11. However, I found that the most disturbing parts of the film were not the questions, but some of the answers they touched upon, like the motive and opportunity.

We, the people cut through the election system matrix last month to remove the GOP's control of power in the Congress. Now, I can only hope that, if enough people watch and react to this film we might be able to cut through the force field surrounding, perhaps the most intriguing mystery in the history of this country.

As someone who has thoroughly researched 9/11 and has been interested in the ways of the "New World Order" for many years (read "The Grand Chessboard" by Zbigniew Brzezinski just to name one book. If you have never heard of this person...look him up) I can say I have ZERO doubt that 9/11 was TOTALLY an inside job.

The inherent problems with addressing 9/11 and other "conspiracy" related topics is in order to even begin to make sense of it all, one has to do a tremendous amount of research. The universe of information involved is INCREDIBLY expansive. This takes a lot of time and energy and, unfortunately, most people choose not to make the effort. Most are content having their news spoon fed by "official sources" on "The Most Trusted Name in News" and other main stream "news" outlets. He says his testimony was, unlike the other testimonies, taken by the 911 commission behind closed doors. And what he had to say about the explosions before the planes hit, like the accounts from 22 other witnesses, did not make the 911 commission report.

It is all very disturbing. What may be most disturbing is that the only way for us to hear this information is to spread these videos and this information amongst ourselves.

Barbara Honneger

Barbara Honegger worked as a researcher at the Hoover Institution before joining the Ronald Reagan administration as a researcher and policy analyst in 1980. Honegger headed Reagan's gender discrimination agency review before resigning in August, 1983.

While working for Reagan she discovered information that convinced her that George H. W. Bush and William Casey had conspired to make sure that Iran did not release the U.S. hostages until Jimmy Carter had been defeated in the 1980 presidential election.

In 1987 Honegger began leaking information to journalists about the Reagan administration. However, it was not until

Reagan left office that Honegger published October Surprise (1989). In her book, Honegger claimed that in 1980 William Casey and other representatives of the Reagan presidential campaign made a deal at two sets of meetings in July and August at the Ritz Hotel in Madrid with Iranians to delay the release of Americans held hostage in Iran until after the November 1980 presidential elections. Reagan’s aides promised that they would get a better deal if they waited until Carter was defeated.

Luke Rudkowski

Luke Rudkowski has been a dedicated leader in New York?s 911 Truth movement for three years running. Tom Tvedten MD: 60 y/o medical dodtor from Arkansas who became aware of the 9/11 Truth movement only 1 1/2 years ago. 1977 graduate of University of Arkansas Medical School who is now semi-retired and living on a rural farm in the foothills of the Ozarks with his wife Natalie and their three youngest children which he and Natalie are home schooling. Congo rebels kill, eat two mountain gorillas

'Remaining gorillas are extremely vulnerable,' park warden says

This mother and son are among the 700 mountain gorillas left in the world. Two other gorillas were killed and eaten this month by rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a park warden says.

DAKAR, Senegal - Rebels in eastern Congo have killed and eaten two mountain gorillas, conservationists said Wednesday, adding they feared more of the endangered animals may have been slaughtered in the lawless region.

Only about 700 mountain gorillas remain in the world, 380 of them spread across a range of volcanic mountains straddling the borders of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda in Central Africa.

One dismembered gorilla corpse was found Tuesday in a pit latrine in Congo's Virunga National Park, a few hundred yards from a park patrol post that was abandoned because of rebel attacks, according to the London-based Africa Conservation Fund. Another was killed in the same area Jan. 5, said the group, which based its report on conservationists in the field.

The conservation group blamed rebels loyal to a local warlord, Laurent Nkunda, for the latest killing. Nkunda is a renegade army soldier who commands thousands of fighters in the vast country's east. In recent years they have assaulted major cities and clashed sporadically with government forces.

Gorilla trusted humans

Paulin Ngobobo, a senior warden at the park, described finding the animal's remains on Tuesday on an Internet blog.

"We've learned a lot: the gorilla had in fact been eaten for meat. His name was Karema, another solitary silverback that had been born into a habituated group — meaning that he had grown to trust humans enough to let them come to within touching distance," Ngobobo wrote.

Silverbacks are older adult males and usually group leaders, though some are loners.

"We learned that the remaining gorillas are extremely vulnerable — the rebels are after the meat, and it's not difficult for them to find and kill the few gorillas that remain," Ngobobo wrote.

Ngobobo added that the first gorilla reported killed earlier this month had been shot by rebels and also eaten.

"A local farmer was ordered to help the rebels collect the meat of the gorilla," Ngobobo said. "He told them that the meat was dangerous to eat, and immediately informed us of the incident."

Robert Muir of the Frankfurt Zoological Society, who accompanied Ngobobo, said: "We need to impress on Nkunda and his men that it is inexcusable to destroy national and world heritage of such critical importance ... now that we know that the slaughtered gorilla was eaten, the gorillas habituated for tourism are at extreme risk — and we are worried that more have been killed already."

Hippos also killed for meat

The last remaining hippo populations in Congo are in Virunga and are also on the verge of being wiped out. Conservationists have blamed rebels and militias for slaughtering them, and say more than 400 were killed last year, mostly for food. Only 900 hippos are left, a huge drop from the 22,000 reported there in 1998.

Virunga park has been ravaged by poachers and deforestation for more than a decade. The 1994 Rwandan genocide saw millions of refugees spill across the border into Congo, marking the beginning of an era of unrest, lawlessness and clashes between militias and myriad rebel groups.

Mineral-rich Congo, which held its first democratic elections in more than four decades last year, is struggling to recover from a broader 1998-2002 war that drew in the armies of more than half a dozen African nations.

The job of protecting the country's parks falls on local rangers, and the risks are high. In Virunga alone, some 97 rangers have died on duty since 1996, Africa Conservation Fund said.

On his blog, Ngobobo also describes being shot at and beaten by the military, who he and other rangers were trying to persuade to stop cutting down the forest.

Richard Leakey, a conservationist credited with helping end the slaughter of elephants in Kenya during the 1980s, said: "the survival of these last remaining mountain gorillas should be one of humanity's greatest priorities. Their future lies with a small number of very brave rangers risking their lives with very little support from the outside world."

Boutros-Ghali: a CIA Role in the 1994 Assassination of Rwanda's President Habyarimana?

With war still raging in the Eastern Congo for the fourth time since 1996, serious questions must be asked about the UN's inability to respond effectively. Former UN Secretary General Boutros-Ghali has been raising such questions ever since Washington vetoed his second mandate at the UN in November 1996. For the English version of my book Rwanda 1994, Colonialism Dies Hard, I interviewed Boutros-Ghali about the wars that have wreaked havoc on Central Africa and especially Rwanda and the former Zaire. His observations about the UN and the possible role of the CIA in the April 6, 1994 assassination of two African heads of state are stunning.

In March 2004, the former Secretary General declared to the French daily Libération that a major problem at the UN was that the Department of Peacekeeping Operations was very infiltrated by the American authorities. Here, briefly, is how the UN is infiltrated and the impact.

"The US authorities have taken control of the UN system through financial administration and the appointment of officers and staff who are paid directly by the United States. The UN doesn't have the means to appoint senior officers and specialist staff. When these people are selected and paid by a foreign government, they are obviously more loyal to that government than to the UN. As a result, reports presented to the Secretary General and to the Security Council are purged and modified." To find out more about this analysis, Boutros-Ghali recommends reading the paper entitled Multilateralism Besieged that he presented on behalf of the South Centre in October 2004 (www.southcentre.org).

"In practical terms," he added, "in the case of Rwanda, the Department of Peace-Keeping Operations (DPKO) would send me reports on the situation based on information provided by my special envoy Jacques-Roger Booh-Booh, General Romeo Dallaire and others. But these reports would be purged, modified and drafted according to a specific foreign policy."
Asked about the famous fax sent by General Dallaire to the UN headquarters in January 1994 describing a plan to eliminate many Tutsis, Boutros-Ghali replied: "That story is greatly exaggerated. There was not only one fax. Every day the UN would receive faxes saying 'We heard there's a plot afoot' And that leads to another weakness of the UN. The UN has no intelligence service. Member countries are much more informed about what's going on than the UN Secretary General. Moreover, they refuse to share their information!"

Boutros-Ghali insisted that he does not wish to understate his own responsibility in Rwanda. "I said publicly that I failed in Rwanda. I did not succeed in convincing Security Council members to act. The United States with the strong support of Great Britain did everything they could to prevent the UN from intervening, and a majority of countries followed their lead." It should be noted that Boutros-Ghali declared on at least two occasions, including once to me in November 2002, that the "Rwandan genocide was 100 percent American responsibility".

Why did the United States and Great Britain oppose intervening in Rwanda when it could have been helpful and necessary?

Boutros-Ghali: "Is this not a repetition of Fashoda?" The reference is to the fort on the Upper Nile (now in Sudan) where French and British troops met in September 1898. France was trying to dominate Africa from Dakar to Djibouti while the British wanted to build a railway to link its 'possessions' from 'The Cape to Cairo'. France withdrew and conceded Fashoda to the British.

"Central Africa has been the scene of an Anglo-American conflict with France. After all, what has happened in the Congo: war and at least 100,000 Hutus killed. That whole affair has been suppressed. The report on those deaths was never published. The French supported Mobutu, while the Americans and the British were behind Uganda and Rwanda, and they won. The background to these wars is a repetition of Fashoda. It began with Rwanda, and before that Uganda, which is part of the Anglo-American block. Uganda has no political parties, but it is never criticized, never denounced. () If there had been no foreign aggression by a Uganda against Rwanda in 1990, there would have been no war and no genocide."

Boutros-Ghali is astonished by the silence concerning the assassination on April 6, 1994, of the heads of state of two African countries, Rwanda and Burundi, which triggered the massive killing.

"It is a very mysterious scandal. Four reports have been made on Rwanda: the French Parliament Report, the Belgian Senate Report, Kofi Annan's UN report, and the Organization of African Unity report. All four say absolutely nothing about the shooting down of the Rwandan President's plane. That just goes to show the power of the intelligence services that can force people to be quiet."

The only partial exception is the seven year investigation conducted by the French anti-terrorist judge Jean-Louis Bruguière. That investigation has implicated current Rwandan President Paul Kagame and the Rwandan Patriotic Front for having planned, ordered and carried out the April 6 assassination. But the silence continues since the Bruguière report has not been officially filed, only having been leaked to Le Monde.

According to Boutros-Ghali there's much left to be found out. "Judge Bruguière, who I invited to a conference in Monaco, told me that according to his investigation, the CIA was involved in that assassination. The Anglo-American intelligence apparatus is much stronger than France's. Perhaps the French secret service decided that they have no interest in making the Bruguière report public at this time."

If the CIA was involved in the assassination of Rwandan President Habyarimana in April 1994, as the French judge has claimed, then it is easier to understand why the Official Story about the Rwandan tragedy continues to call that terrorist attack an "accident" or a "crash". Worse still, considering the terrible consequences that exceed the wildest predictions of any sorcerer's apprentice, serious questions remain unanswered about the efforts made and means used to erase the tracks leading to the criminals involved in the killing of the two African heads of state, and to misinform and mislead international public opinion about the real causes of the Rwandan tragedy that followed.

Second thoughts about Hotel Rwanda

Moreover, those who, like most of the movie critics, have been smitten by the two films about Rwanda now showing, "Hotel Rwanda" and the documentary "Shake Hands with the Devil: The Journey of Romeo Dallaire" should read, or reread, two important books that help put it all in perspective. The first one, to help come to grips with the wild imaginings about the devil and his cold hands, is Black Skin, White Masks (1952) by the great anti-colonialist writer and psychiatrist Frantz Fanon. The following excerpt is particularly relevant: "In Europe, Evil is represented by the Black man. The hangman is black, Satan is black, people talk of darkness, and when one is dirty, he is black * be it physical or to moral dirt. People would be surprised to see the very large number of expressions, if they were all recorded where the Black man is equated to sin."

The second book, "The Africa that Never Was" (1970) is the product of a comprehensive study of mainly British literature on Africa from 1560 to 1960. The authors, Hammond and Jablow, identify a set of conventions, metaphors and images that pervade the literature * and cinema * that together were developed during, and helped to legitimize, slavery and colonialism. Together they offer a fantasy vision of a continent and a people that never existed and never could exist. The authors show for example, that unlike for the tales about bloody wars in Europe, nobody in the literature on Africa finds, or attempts to find, social, economic, political, international or institutional reasons for the wars. Based on the literature, people just seem to like killing each other in Africa.

It is sad to see that these colonialist views pervade modern literature and film about Africa and especially Rwanda.

I just read an article by a British socialist, who was all angry because he maintains the people who believe there is a 9-11 cover-up are hurting the cause of the left. I would provide a link to his article here, but it's truly not worthy of the intelligent people here.

But, it got me pondering. What is it about people who can't believe what they see? When you have an apple in your hand, some people would say, "No, you're wrong. It is a rabbit." And they can give you such forceful explanation as to why it's a rabbit, you almost start to see the apple grow fur and hop.

And yet, immediately after Silverstein's decision to pull, the building came down. Building 7 was taken down by demolition. If Building 7 was destroyed this way, so were the 2 World Trade Towers.

An apple is an apple. What makes one want to believe it isn't an apple, but a rabbit, is - HOW COULD PEOPLE IN OUR GOVERNMENT AND IN POSITIONS OF POWER DO SUCH A THING TO AMERICAN CITIZENS?

And their rationalization is easy, just as it states in the documents from a Project for a New American Century. PNAC maintains it was the time for America to push forward on the global stage, seeing that Russia was now out of the picture, and establish itself as the only world power of the globe and the space around the globe. The first thing PNAC stated that needed to be done in order to acheive this was secure the oil in the Middle East and elsewhere. All they needed was another Pearl Harbor. They saw the loss of American life on 9-11 as necessary for a greater global good.

Building 7 was demolished.

It reminds me of the simplistic slogan, “What you don't know can't hurt you!” Tell that to someone who has had cancer, for example. The earlier the detection, the better.
