Yesterday I got into my car, turned the key, the radio came on to the Air America station I left it on, and I started to back out of the garage. Before I hit the street I had to stop and ask myself, "did someone just invite me, twice, to register on a site called PresidentialPrayer.com?" Presidential Prayer!

Indeed they had. The station carrying Air America in Phoenix was bought out by a religious group. Coincidence perhaps, that the previous format was liberal radio? Hell (oops, Heck) no! Forces from above, in the church tower, have sent their minions to do God's work in our community, and I'm sure the money their doing it with is not merely the donations from the basket being passed around on Sunday.

This is religious war my friends. Today it's Phoenix. Tomorrow, the world!

Here's part of a message from the former GM:

Dear Friends of Air America Phoenix,

Thank you to the staff, the listeners and the clients for all
you’ve done in the past 17 months.

You helped take an unrated, unprofitable AM radio station and
pushed it to a tie for 3rd place out of 25 AM stations in
Phoenix. You took that same AM station and made it profitable
in less than a year and even after the sale was announced you
stood by Air America Phoenix and we kept on making money even
when our future was in doubt and we didn’t know when our “plug”
was going to be pulled. In fact, the last month we were on the
air was the 3rd best month we’ve had financially!

Air America Phoenix has now disappeared into the ether and
Phoenix is left with multiple Christian formats, some in
English and others in Spanish, several “brokered’ time stations
(you know the radio stations selling you vitamins, good bowel
movements and financial advice) a bagful of right wing “
Conservative Talk stations” featuring Rush, Sean, Laura, Bill
Bennett, Savage, Medved and all of their local imitators,
three “Sports Talk” stations that live off the largess of their
sister stations in the big corporate clusters that dominate the
dial in Phoenix...

Pray for us good people of this online community. Pray that you don't login tomorrow and find that ProgressivesOnline.com has become PresbytariansOnline.com

I have been looking for opinions on losing Air America in The AZ Republic. Except for a very small statement in the Valley News section about it being bought out; so far only one opinion has been published.

Wednesday marked the first day that the Air America Radio affiliate in Phoenix (KXXT-1010) was off the air.
Air America's progressive format operated in the black and was growing in its market share but was mysteriously replaced by yet another Christian broadcasting network, Phoenix's ninth to be exact. Was this a covert effort to silence the only democratic voice on the AM radio airwaves in Phoenix or merely just a business transaction with a coincidently tragic ending? Who knows, for certain?

What is particularly sad is that AZ. has lost local news as well! Some of the commentators live in Arizona and spoke truth rather than propaganda............the political climate was changing.........................:(

"Air America has Valley mourners"

"I am one of the Valley's progressives who is mourning the loss of air America on the Phoenix airwaves ("Valley loses valuable radio voice," Saturday). It is still possible to listen to Air America on the Internet, but the show that was really worth listening to was that of local talk show host, Charles Goyette (KXXT-AM 1010), who is off the air as a result of the station being sold out.

Goyette has an amazing ability to dissect the Issues, inspire discussion and find the truth. Some of his regular callers are conservatives, who are more than welcome to enter the discussion and give their opinions. It is smart, civilized talk radio and there are thousands of us out here who are in a state of mourning.

Hopefully, he will be back soon, along with Ed Shultz, on another great progressive show.
