Let me translate. Since you don't think like us and you are a (gasp) conservative then we don't want to hear your point of view. It's your choice to be closed minded. Hope you enjoy the consequences.

All registrants start with a +10 karma regardless of their politics.

Limitations are applied to new members who are not yet full citizens of POL until they reach 7 days, 7 posts, and maintain postive karma.

Also, citizens who fall below -10 karma because their fellow citizens have rated their posts thusly are also limited until their karma is raised.

The reasons citizens give negative karma should not be based on pure politics. That is to say, disagreement should not warrant a negative karma rating. Not following POL policies such as the use of "hate" speech should. Endorsing "regressive" concepts like violence or discrimination should also be a valid reason for someone receiving negative karma.

Ask Yahoo, sums up KARMA from a Hindu primer as:

the law of cause and effect. The principle is similar to that expressed by the Christian verse, "As ye sow, so shall ye reap." The word karma means action, and it's used as short-hand for the idea that every action you take causes a reaction in the future. I, for one, do NOT want you to go away. You remain a mystery to me. We are so completely opposite ... and yet I hope one day to establish something ... anything ... that we can see the same. This country needs common ground.

I've tried to reach out to you with real 'person to person', no 'attitude' posts for your consideration, but you ignore and dismiss them and only come through with the sarcastic jabs. But, I don't give up on people, rarely, so I will keep trying.

As fas a conservatives ... Snowdog is a good example of finding common ground. We had some "bitch'n fights" and yet now ... we share an understanding. I call that progress. And THAT is what progressives do. The civility here is lightyears ahead of any right-wing forum I've gone to.

I support the Karma rules as a way to ensure a constructive, positive exchange here and to prevent the site from being dominated by a few disruptive individuals.

Jane's advise to Pea was, as usual, on target.

Conservatives are known for being able to "work within the system" and they are often fond of "rules and order" (things we liberals dislike). It's unfortunate that Pea could not manage ours. I did appreciate some of his views and inputs.

Where do you get off going into a progressive community and dictating terms? You're wasting our time, diluting the quality of discussion, and clearly plan to take us through the same repetitive round of rigamarole the past 7 freepers have. Then you'll announce that you've seen the light, leave, and 3 days later a new freeper will mysteriously show up.

Pinball, i accept your offer in the spirit which it was intended. I know haus will not accept a truce with anyone who defends policies that, amongst other things, hurts Americans at home and murders people abroad, and I don't blame him. But we will not beat the right-wing by irradicating them from POL just as they will not beat terrorists by killiing them all. The liberal path to peace on this forum and in the Middle East is education not war.

We must keep our eye on the prize. The strategy for fighting the battle and winning the war are not the same. We will win this upcomming election and Democrats will be in power until the pendulum swings back years from now. To achieve lasting peace and prosperity for ALL will require us to think outside of the political box. To not merely attack the disease that is visable on the leaves of the plant. But to examine the roots and enrich the soil so that the next crop will "be fruitful and multiply"

Do the people running this blog have so little respect for the freedom of speach that they change someone's chosen name? How in the world are we going to get real dialog going when you not only disrespect other people's beliefs, you disrespect their right to have a different belief?

I have tried to have a reasonable dialog with Proud Conservative, Mr Magoo and another name that escapes me. Are these all the same person? This is not only unacceptable, it is contemptable. Those in charge owe him, me and other contributors an apology. There is nothing to be gained by a lot of liberals telling each other how smart they are. You need to listen to the conservatives, find out why they think like they do and try to resolve differences.

No. The short history is Magoo signed up as ILoveBush, ignored warnings about "trolling" for arguments and personal attacks which are a violation of this site's stated policy (as well as just about every other blog/discussion forum online). Instead of banning him I changed his name to Pinball Wizard to give him a taste of his own medicine. His next violation was endorsing violence against a peace protestor and after he didn't like that warning he called us a few names and profanities and said he wouldn't be back.

He came back, agreed to be civil, and picked his new name -- Gip. When he recently resorted to name calling again, I changed his name to Mr. Magoo.

I'm sorry to hear that you are so easily "disenchanted" Wimzkl. You play by the rules and your posts are valued here. Online societies need some rules just like the offline ones in the interest of keeping this place from becoming "Lord of the Flies" or worse -- dominated by angry right-wing Republicans.

I am the administrator but I rarely have to intervene since our member voting system called "karma" helps keep posters from getting out of hand.

I believe our policies are and continue to be very "liberal" here. Only 2 people banned in over 2.5 years is highly unusual and lenient for a political forum.

I do apologize for changing his name. He should have simply been banned outright. My greater fear, however, is that I owe an apology to the kind hearted individuals who come to ProgressivesOnline to escape the right-wing attack dogs and have to be subjected to a select few who are motivated by hate and bent on disruption and would love nothing more than to see this site shut down and all of it's members escorted to Canada at gunpoint (to put it mildly).

In my view, this site has been generous & hospitable to Mr. Magoo (formerly "I Love Bush" I believe). He's enjoyed more than tolerance...he's been permitted to be a central figure here and has done nothing to earn such status, neither in terms of his spirit toward progressives or the quality-content of his posts.

While I appreciate his presence and persistence here, his complaints are those of an ingrate - and a hostile one at that...roughly the equivalent of the "welfare queens" he so despises complaining that they're not chauffered about in limosines as part of their benefits.

don't even think about comparing your posts with Jennifer's. Some may be long winded but your's are full of hot air. Her posts are generally thoughtful and insightful, are often heavily researched, and focus more on ideas than criticism. She also listens to other posters. You'd be better off contemplating how to be more like her.
