Our PLATFORM:
The pursuit of truth and justice doesn't have to be boring. With your help we hope to build a progressive paradise where visitors can be entertained as well as informed and even people who are not normally very political will find reasons to return.

Members can talk about the news and exchange ideas using our live chat or discussion forum, connect to progressive organizations, find out where the latest activist actions are, celebrate the liberal arts, and even find their "politically correct" soulmate.

Our PHILOSOPHY:
We believe that, not only is it appropriate to discuss politics in mixed company, it is essential for the evolution of humanity. Just as Robert Kennedy once warned that,"all it takes for evil to prosper is for good people to do nothing" we suggest that the only thing that can stand in the way of progress is for progressives to say nothing. In fact, if Galileo hadn't spoken up, 16th century conservatives would have had us go on believing that the earth stands still as the sun revolves around us. His ideas got him imprisoned for life, but at least he got the ball rolling. More recent progressive voices have lead to the end of slavery, the right for women to vote, and the birth or rock and roll, but there is still much to be done. 45% of Americans oppose equal rights for Gay couples and, according to a recent Gallop pole, 18% still do believe that the sun revolves around us (i.e., them!).

That's where ProgressivesOnline (POL) can help...

Our PLAN:
To provide a free map of our solar system to the first 100 ultra-neo-conservatives who join ;-)

To do what progressives-on-paper and progressives-on-cable can't, and provide an interactive scratch pad where inquisitive minds can probe the cracks in human understanding and, perhaps, unlock the missing link between open minded Republicans and Democrats.

To be part of a revolution that challenges the Internet to serve a higher purpose than filling your inbox with offers to reduce your mortgage or increase your manhood. In the hope that the more people that engage, the faster the evolutionary wheel will turn and, ultimately, more citizens will make history and spend less time listening to it being made-up on FOX News.

Our DREAM:
What the POL virtual world turns into depends on the sum of ideas and ideals of all its moderators and members (even if it does not lean as far "left" as I would like). Speaking for myself, I'd describe my vision of progressive paradise as a place where:

opinions are commercial free and don't require corporate endorsements or party approval.

cultural, religious, and sexual diversity is not merely "tolerated" but embraced.

the earth's resources are nurtured rather than exploited and all living creatures have a value unto themselves rather than just serving a purpose for humankind.

lives are more important than land and blood is more precious than oil.

the greed of a few don't outweigh the needs of the many and private profits don't dictate public policy.

worshipers follow the examples of their spiritual founders over the agendas of their religious institutions.

the measure of a person's patriotism is not how often they wave the flag but how much they are willing to sacrifice, and a nations pride is measured by the depth of freedoms the flag stands for, not the height of the pole on which it stands.

DIRECTIONS:
To help build our progressive paradise simply register a username and then say something! The more you contribute, the closer we get.

If you should stray from our site and get lost, just remember that the directions to ProgressivesOnline.com is to move forward and merge "LEFT". And be sure to bring someone with you. Sharing the carpool lane is always the fastest way to get to any progressive destination.

(Note: A great way to help us grow is to use the "email this page to a friend" function under the Forum Tools menu)
