View our full featured site -> : Big Oil Launches Attack On Gore's "Inconvenient Truth"
In the big scheme of things, it is relatively insignificant that the oil companies have screwed a country and it's people for a few years.
But now, as they attempt to supress and discredit the scientific research on global warning in their pursuit of more almighty dollars, they are willing to gamble with the future of the entire planet and civilization itself.
Maybe Bush is right and there is real Evil in the world. But its true form is his friends -- the oil gods and the people that pray to them.

For the oil industry, Al Gore’s film exposing the truth is perceived as a threat, and they have no shortage of funds to try to distort it.
One right-wing pundit compared Gore to Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi propagandist. Another right-winger, who's been on the payroll of corporate special interests, likened Gore's pursuit of solutions to global warming to Adolf Hitler's pursuit of genocide.
I'm sending Al a note this week telling him to keep fighting, to keep standing up for the truth no matter how vicious the attacks. I thought he might like to hear from you, too. Sign on to this note of thanks, and add your own note of encouragement here:

Proud Conservative, thank you. I like your insights and demeanor. Politics is a serious chess game with too much winning or loosing in it for me. There are people who thrive on that. I'm just not one of them. Maybe it has to be that way in our society that holds such divergent views and has so many differing interests.
I saw Al Gore's movie, "An Inconvient Truth." "An Inconvient Truth" may have the power to bring many more people together on the theme of that movie, global warming, and the meaning of it. I hope it will do that. I think America needs to come together on some common cause with a common purpose. Maybe "An Inconvient Truth" will be able to do it.
You are a special person Jennifer. You are among the very few who has seen this flop of a film
The numbers continue to show how bad this film is
Week 4 shows the flop film is #12
Weekend total is $1.749,553 in 404 theaters
The total, after 4 weeks, is a dreadful $6,405,586
Even with more places showing it, the amount per theater fell from $12,334 to $4331
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/inco...th/numbers.php
duh, PC. The film is entitled "An Inconvient Truth" not "Dude who stole my SUV" and it doesn't star Brad Pitt or Jennifer Aniston.
It could have been titled "This is a non-entertaining movie that only thoughtful, conscientious Americans will pay $9 to see. All others can wait to see it on the rocket ship to Mars when the earth starts melting" but the producers thought that title was too wordy.
It's people like you who have made "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" #2 at the box office and will likely cheer for the bad guys in the sequel, "The Corrupt and the Imbicilic: Washington Drift".
by the way, Proud Conservative,
1. why do you hate America so , that you would attack a film you have not seen that is based on the consensus of world scientists and is intended to help this country?
2. why are you so Godless that you would even consider gambling on the future of the earth he created and all God's creatures to protect the financial interests of the heathen Oil gods who continue to forsaken you at the pump?
p.s.
You try to pass yourselves off as great Americans, when all you do is TRASH America. Do us all a favor, if you don't like it here move to another country...
though you've said the same thing to several of us, several times, it appears that it is just the opposite. If you hate this country and planet so much you really should try Mars. The Oil gods you bow to would love to have you scout it out for new sources to drill. Or perhaps, Ur-anus might suit you better. It appears you've already taken up residence there.

I have observed that society and science generally make progress one death at a time. Global warming appears to me to be highly suspect in view of the global warming science that governments knows all about and that is NOT only being allowed to continue, but is being encouraged in spite of the present scientific evidence and projected consequences and NOT just because of profit. People who have been following posts I've made in the "Darkroom" may see that more is and has been involved in the politics and policies of Earth than secular human endevour. During the Age of the Dinosaurs the climate of Earth was tropical.
Why are more than 50% of U.S. spaced based weapons that are in orbit around the Earth pointing away from Earth and out into space? Why are so many military programs "Black Budget" programs and without oversight by the GAO? The Christian Bible talks about the Elohim (Gods, plural). I think it is particularly important to learn and know about them particularly now because we appear to be in those "times" of the God wars that the Christian Bible said would occur. It's worth looking into for the background that leads to where people of Earth are today that involves public policy. Important poly makers are members of BLACK secret societies and we do have BLACK budgeted military programs.

So I hate Amercia by pointing out Al Bores film is a flop at the box office?
I could see the point being made by the left when the film was only in 77 theaters and was not making alot of money
But then it goes to over 400 theaters and the amount of money per theater DROPS and I am attacked for pointing it out?
I wonder if Al will demand a recount.
I would love to debate on this board but your karma crap keep conservative voices from being heard here
This is how libs debate. they can say whatever that want, whenever they want; but they do not want people who disagree with them to have their say.
Is this what libs mean by fair and balanced?

If your hangup is with Al Gore that's one thing.
But where do you stand on Global Warming?
America and the world would like to know. You know the phrase,
YOU ARE EITHER WITH US OR AGAINST US! :sunny:

Global warming really is a threat, and could easily become a much larger threat than terrorism if something isn't done about it soon. Yet, there are still way too many people that are still skeptical about global warming, and after watching the mainsteam media one would be tempted to believe that there's still a debate within the scientific community over whether global warming exists or not. In my opinion, many of the global warming nay-sayers are more rooted in ideology than real science.
Let me tell you what I think. The whole ANTI-environmental movement is based on the idea that regulations on businesses are harmful to the economy and that there should be as few regulations as possible. The people who go by this ideology believe that only unrestricted laissez-faire capitalism is the way to go, and they oppose enironmental laws for the same reason they oppose labor laws:they both involve regulations for businesses.
But major environmental issues like global warming present a problem for these ideologues. With workers' rights issues such as the minimum wage, they can claim that such laws would cost people their jobs and that if businesses are given enough time to grow they will be able to pay their workers more on their own.The same can't easily be said about global warming because the fate of the world would be worth risking a few jobs over. So, the ideologues instead argue that the science is faulty. They attack the environmentalists, call them names and say that they're just a bunch of tree-hugging extremists.
I've heard a bunch of accusations, and most of you have probably heard them too. One of the things I've heard is that environmentalists want to undo all the progress that has been made in industry and technology. If that were true then why is it that hybrid cars and other environmentally friendly products are being made? It is very much possible to keep our way of life and keep making technological and economic progress without harming the Earth. Another one I've heard is that there is an international conspiracy against the U.S. and other industrialized nations to make us weaker. Give me a break(refer to above answer)
So far I have yet to see any ulterior motives behind environmentalists. I can find some in the skeptics though. First is the ideological motive that I have been talking about. Second is the money motive that most other progressive thinkers have already mentioned.

there in lies the problem with today's media. They are so beholding to the politcal parties that they handle every issue like a political hot potato. I'm surprised that every time they uncover a new dinasour fossil they don't turn the camara on some religious nut to refute the theory of evolution.
The earth is round, it revolves around the sun,
and we are damaging the ozone layer that protects us.

There is no hard prood to support "global warming"
During the 1970's we were warned about "global cooling"
Paul Ehrlich, a real enviro kook, has never been right about anything he has ranted about
I am not going to fall prey to another "crisis" invented by the left
Becasue Al Bores film is a flop, libs now have to find an excuse. Much like they do win they lose elections

Earth hottest it's been in 2,000 years
By John Heilprin / Associated Press :
"WASHINGTON - The Earth is running a slight fever from greenhouse gases, after enjoying relatively stable temperatures for 2,000 years. The National Academy of Sciences, after reconstructing global average surface temperatures for the past two millennia, said Thursday the data are "additional supporting evidence ... that human activities are responsible for much of the recent warming."
Other new research showed that global warming produced about half of the extra hurricane-fueled warmth in the North Atlantic in 2005, and natural cycles were a minor factor, according to Kevin Trenberth and Dennis Shea of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, a research lab sponsored by the National Science Foundation and universities.
The academy had been asked to report to Congress on how researchers drew conclusions about the Earth's climate going back thousands of years, before data was available from modern scientific instruments. The academy convened a panel of 12 climate experts, chaired by Gerald North, a geosciences professor at Texas A&M University, to look at the "proxy" evidence before then, such as tree rings, corals, marine and lake sediments, ice cores, boreholes and glaciers.
Combining that information gave the panel "a high level of confidence that the last few decades of the 20th century were warmer than any comparable period in the last 400 years," the panel wrote. It said the "recent warmth is unprecedented for at least the last 400 years and potentially the last several millennia," though it was relatively warm around the year 1000 followed by a "Little Ice Age" from about 1500 to 1850."

During the 1970's we were warned about "global cooling"
Scientists didn't have the technology back in the 1970's that they have now. They knew that climate change was occurring, but they weren't aware of all the factors that affected global climate change. Nowadays, they have much more information at their disposal to find out what affects the atmosphere and how.
I am not going to fall prey to another "crisis" invented by the left
For too long this has been a left vs. right issue when it shouldn't be. Global warming affects everyone, whether they be Democrat or Republican. The fact is that the vast majority of the scientific community believes that global warming is happening and is caused by humans. We all need to put politics and ideology aside for once and do something about this.
Here's a link that deals with some of the myths surrounding global warming.

The "right" has a long history of rejecting "inconvenient truths" i.e. anything that might call for a personal sacrifice in the best interest of society as a whole. The resistance on this one is pure brainwashing, however, because addressing it is win/win situation for everyone (except big oil and Bush co. in the short term). Even if global warming is not a significant threat we will surely all benefit from focusing our efforts on clean, renewable energy sources for the future.

There IS a consenous among credible scientists (ie, those who have not been bought by the oil and fossil fuel industry.) that global warming is a reality. I guess that Bush is too stupid to grasp the concept that when the CO2 levels go up, temperatures go up as well. Then again this is a president that chooses to ignore any credible scientific, (or intellegence) evidence that does not mesh with his hard right world view.
