Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862), wrote an essay originally titled "Resistance to Civil Government" (1849), later re-titled, "Civil Disobediance," that inspired contemporary people like Daniel Elsberburg to release the "Pentagon Papers" in 1971 and risk imprisonment for the rest of his natural life. The Pentagon papers comprised approximately 7,000 pages of classified goverment documents that proved the U.S. government engaged in a massive cover-up of the facts about the Vietnam War and contributed greatly to stopping the war in Vietnam.
