Since ILB/PW/Gip/Magoo/Sweetpea/Rush/Hannity/etc. love to harp constantly about rageball liberals :angry: and how we hate everything, here's your chance to make them look like idiots.
List things about the country you like or love. Emphasize the positive!
================================
What I love about this country is that I really don't have to prove to anyone that I love this country.
I love that I don't have to salute the flag. In fact, I can even burn it if I so desire.
I love that, although I must follow the laws and pay my taxes, I have the power to influence those laws and the distribution of my tax money with my vote, and that vote will be counted.
I love that my country has a history of promoting peace over acts of aggression and founded the U.N. in hopes of maintaining world peace.
I love that my country has lead by example in the promotion of human rights and civil liberties.
I love that my country holds that "all men (and women) are created equal" and their right to "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" is not diminished by their race, gender, or sexuality.
I love that my country honors the seperation of church and state.
I love that I can be critical of my countries hired officials and I don't have to respect them unless they've earned it.
================================
Ironically, every one of the things I've listed above are the very things that have been compromised in recent years.
I don't love the flag, the anthem, or the monuments. I don't love "the mountains and the prairies or the oceans bright with foam" any more than the mountains, prairies, and oceans elsewhere on this planet. I don't love the people who are born here any more than the people born anywhere. I don't love my country "right or wrong". My love is conditional.
I love my country on the condition that it holds true to the core principles it has stood for for over 200 years and continues to move progressively forward in the care and consideration of all of the earth's inhabitants and the earth itself for the next 200 years and beyond.
FDR, you understandably called for an emphasize on the positive in this thread. Unfortunately, these days, we most often have to be critical here in order to distinquish the positive from the negative. But you need not worry about the tone. People who love this country know that seeking the truth is always a move in a positive direction.

Hear Here!
I love OUR Constitution and in particular, Amendment 1:
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
LONG MAY IT LIVE!
Our Soul.....America has the most diverse culture in the world. As much as we dislike our leaders we love our neihbors and will help out when it really counts. Even with all the BS going on right now with imigration, the war in IRAQ, the decline in middle class, the dollar sinking, and last but not least the attack on our basic civil rights this is still the place to be....show me anywhere else in the world that has wide open places, go snow skiing in the morning and surfing in the afternoon. Compare our music with any other culture and we blow them away, hands down. I will admit that some things with our leaders are getting scary but we still have the power to change that, will take some work and elbow grease but change is still happening.
In closing I leave you with two thoughts:
"Don't Panic" - HHGTTG
And when the going gets tough, just grab a beer, a smoke and some Motown - KyIndy

A-men!
I love the means to be able to REACH national elected officials. Especially if you go into their offices and you can have a good butt kicking discussion with a Legislative Assistant, Chief of Staff or even the Congressperson/Senator if you're lucky and catch him out of his hidey hole. :) Most people don't realize how difficult that is in other countries, even Europe.
If you can effectively organize people, that of course, will get any legislator's attention!
When the going get's tough, start singing Bach Cantatas. ;)
