Does anyone here find this unusual? What was once the "evil empire" and "Godless Communists" is now the major road block to the neocon war plans and now Putin is attempting this. How things change!!

A CONFERENCE ON THE `DIALOGUE OF RELIGIONS' IN MOSCOW GATHERED 100 RELIGIOUS LEADERS FROM 40 COUNTRIES. President Vladimir Putin gave a speech, underlining that Russia would be a model for "intercivilizational dialogue." Putin also slammed any attempt to "drive a wedge between Christianity and Islam." "Attempts are being made to divide the world according to religious or ethnic membership and above all drive a wedge between Christian and Islamic communities and provoke a conflict of civilization," Putin said. The conference, according to Russian Orthodox Metropolitan Kyrill also plans to discuss issues related to the upcoming G-8 Summit, which will take place in St. Petersburg later this month.

WORLD JEWISH CONGRESS CHAIRMAN ISRAEL SINGER SAYS IF INVITED, HE WOULD ENTER DIALOGUE WITH IRAN'S RELIGIOUS LEADERS. In an interview with the July 2 issue of Tagesspiegel daily, Singer reviews the just concluded Berlin meeting of the new political council of the World Jewish Congress (WJC), saying that the German capital was chosen for this first session of the council because Germany matters, if one wants to discuss Iran. He would be willing to even visit Tehran, if invited, to meet with Iran's supreme religious leader Ayatollah Khamenei, Singer said, because the dialogue between Jews and Islam is important.
The dialogue between Christians, Jews, and Muslims is also on the agenda of the Moscow inter-religous summit meeting on July 3, which Singer said he was going to attend.

Yes, who could have thought the big bad Russian bear would actually become a mediator in world conflicts?* I get along well with Russians, although I admit I haven't met that many.

*Anyone without their head up Reagan's ass

Personally I think this whole "clash of civilizations" is a crock, and propaganda elaborated by leaders on both sides with their own agenda in mind, but hey, this is a start.

Magi: Did you see that press conference where Bush references democracy in Russia and Putin shuts him up with Iraq? that was gold

Also a kodak moment: Bush's face when confronted (by Putin) on the (lack of) moral authority of America to judge Russian human rights records.

Yep,WP,
and I am so sick of seeing and hearing him piously proclaiming compassion for the VT victims as he continues to thwart meetings (dialogue) with ALL or ANY ME country that extends a hand; which might allow steps toward REASON and PEACE in the Middle East!

How many, times 32, are killed daily in Iraq? Where is his compassion there?

Such hypocrisy!
