A CONFERENCE ON THE `DIALOGUE OF RELIGIONS' IN MOSCOW GATHERED 100 RELIGIOUS LEADERS FROM 40 COUNTRIES. President Vladimir Putin gave a speech, underlining that Russia would be a model for "intercivilizational dialogue." Putin also slammed any attempt to "drive a wedge between Christianity and Islam." "Attempts are being made to divide the world according to religious or ethnic membership and above all drive a wedge between Christian and Islamic communities and provoke a conflict of civilization," Putin said. The conference, according to Russian Orthodox Metropolitan Kyrill also plans to discuss issues related to the upcoming G-8 Summit, which will take place in St. Petersburg later this month.

WORLD JEWISH CONGRESS CHAIRMAN ISRAEL SINGER SAYS IF INVITED, HE WOULD ENTER DIALOGUE WITH IRAN'S RELIGIOUS LEADERS. In an interview with the July 2 issue of Tagesspiegel daily, Singer reviews the just concluded Berlin meeting of the new political council of the World Jewish Congress (WJC), saying that the German capital was chosen for this first session of the council because Germany matters, if one wants to discuss Iran. He would be willing to even visit Tehran, if invited, to meet with Iran's supreme religious leader Ayatollah Khamenei, Singer said, because the dialogue between Jews and Islam is important.
The dialogue between Christians, Jews, and Muslims is also on the agenda of the Moscow inter-religous summit meeting on July 3, which Singer said he was going to attend.
