In contrast to today's broadcasts, it is now clear that, indeed, there used to be a "liberal bias" in the news. Not because the individual journalists were idealistic liberals (though many were) but because they followed what now appears to be obsolete principles exercised by the free press that included journalistic integrity and investigative reporting and could not be bought by advertisers or intimidated by the governmental or corporate powers of the day.

Rest in peace Walter Cronkite. Enjoy your Bush campaign coerced retirement Dan Rather.

I salute you and ABC, CBS, and NBC for, once upon a time, understanding that "fair and balanced" is not weighted on a right-wing curve like Fox News nor does it require keeping to the middle of the political compass. It is simply telling the news "like it is" regardless of which side doesn't like it.
