Hmmm. That link doesn't work.

Hello USAantiwar. Welcome to POL. There's plenty of topics to talk about around here. Try some.

How are they getting around the "law" passed down there to prevent them from setting up camp?

Welcome to POL usa_anti_war.

I understand that approx. 10 acres of land have been purchased for Camp Casey and a permanent base is being established.

Do you have plans to attend?

I'm not sure where this kind of post should go. The scene was so bizarrrrre, I'm not sure it should go here or in the comedy section.

You probably heard about the large rally in Baghdad where thousands were chanting "DEATH TO THE US! DEATH TO ISRAEL!"

What does Condi say?

Rice expressed her confidence in Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's program of national reconciliation, which, in her words, "really does invite people to lay down their arms and to become a part of the new Iraq."

The secretary noted that the change from Saddam Hussein's "politics through repression" to democracy in Iraq is a change of historic proportions, and therefore requires patience and time.

"I believe that in fact we are in the midst of this huge historic change, and when you're in the midst of it sometimes it's hard to see what's at the end of the process," Rice said.

Such an unprecedented process of change is critical to the Middle East region and to the United States' future security, according to Rice. She stated that continued progress toward democracy demands perseverance.

"What [Iraqis] don't need is to have doubts that America is committed to them in this struggle in which they find themselves," Rice said. "What we need to do is to support them in this process."

If I could add to your post FDRfollower ... not only was the rally BIG ... but it was made up of the opposing Iraqi factions collectively chanting "Death to the US!" AND ... they had posters with the heads of Bush & Sadam together both sporting fangs.

Which makes Condi's words so much more hollow.

Did the Nazi's lie as well as the NeoCons? They may have actually taken the skill of lying to a higher art form. Don't you think?

The two situations are completely different because you're dealing with two different cultures and situations.

Nazi Germany: A good book to read, would be William Shirer' "The Nightmare Years" to get a sense of the situation at the early years of the Reich, from the inside. Overall, think of the period, long lasting economic crisis, number of unstable governments, and overall degenerate culture, then, brutal crackdown, terroristic police state, and economic "growth" based on the upcoming war drive that supplies temporary full employment. In that kind of situation, it's easy to see why the Nazi's had to have complete controll over the media.

Today's Neo-Cons: "Relative" period of economic stability, no governmental disturbance as far as day to day operations, and "relatively" literate population, and no overt police state presence, yet. In that sense, going back in history would help you. Read as many of Plato's dialogues as you can and also The History of the Peloponnesian War by Thucydides to understand where the neo-cons are leading us, since they are virtual carbon-copies of the the sophists then, with different cloths. The dialogues are about Socrates waging war with the Sophists over the fate of Greece. Thucydides shows you the result, the destruction of Greece. What helps the Neo-cons today, is the bad habit of the american people, lying! That's the best I can think of in the short time I have to post.

Thanks FDRfollower, but I was comparing the lying and propaganda skills of the NeoCons & Nazis, not comparing the cultures and situations.

And when a comparison is done the similarities are chilling. I'm sure Anne Coulter carries a copy of the Nazi Primer. The lies are as thick as beefsteak ... and both NeoCons and Nazis look people in the eye and state a lie as truth without blinking or flinching.
