When the election 2000 controversy began, previously non political Americans tuned in and took sides. It was reality TV at it's best. The Republicans were louder, bolder. They set up their tent with a corporate mentality and military efficiency, pressing the idea that Bush won and Gore was a sore loser. They calculated that regardless of how dirty the tactic, America would forget and move on once it was over. Meanwhile the Dems took the high road and passed on their strongest card, which would have been to force a revote because of the illegal disenfranchisement of thousands of voters.

Just prior to election 2002, the Democrats again chose the path of least resistance, by voting FOR the Iraq resolution. Again, on election day, they were voted off the island for their weakness. They let the Republicans establish that the Iraq war was the right move, regardless of the outcome. Would there be any doubt about Kerry's chances now if he and the Dems had opposed the war from the beginning with still no Osama, no WMD's, and no peace in sight.

During the Democratic primaries the Dems showed signs of life, criticizing Bush openly and abundantly. They were rewarded in the polls. Then something happened just before the convention. The media started focusing on how Americans dislike negative campaigning and how well John Edwards did by being a nice guy, The Republicans feigned an interest in running a dignified campaign. The Dems fell for it. They stopped the bashing and got no convention boost. At their convention, the GOP let the dogs out and reversed the polls in their favor. You know they must be on to something if they calculated that Bush boasting of having a "Texas swagger" in his speech would play well with America.

Newsflash to the DNC. TAKE OFF THE GLOVES! This administration is the most flawed, inept, and corrupt of our lifetime. There is a wealth of negative material to work with. Those who jumped in during the spectacle of Election 2000 are yet unmovable like a dog clinging to a bad bone but the few undecideds who remain can still be reached during the Survivor, Fear Factor and Apprentice commercials. But use your 30 second spots wisely. The latest reality is that reality TV viewers will pull for the strongest, not the brightest, contestant.
