For those who are not familiar with the canary in a coal mine, this was a low tech but effective method coal miners used to detect the presence of methane gas in the mines. they brought the birds into the mines with them, if the birds died, it was time to leave the shaft.

Well if you see the planet as our coal mine with us as the miners and plants & wildlife as the canary, it seems that global warming is starting to claim some species of plants & wildlife (http://reference.aol.com/globalwarming/_a/global-warming-already-killing-some/20061121170609990001)

Animal and plant species have begun dying off or changing sooner than predicted because of global warming, a review of hundreds of research studies contends.

These fast-moving adaptations come as a surprise even to biologists and ecologists because they are occurring so rapidly.

This is frightening and it should be.
